Santa and Mrs. Claus set up shop

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus have taken up residence during weekends at a North Las Vegas home.
      The jolly pair drop by Ron and Betty Gindlesperger's home at 4730 Gunlock Circle (near Decatur Boulevard and Lone Mountain Road) from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday, to do their usual yuletide business: determining who's been naughty or nice.
      Four-year-old Lisa Myers was recently urged by her relatives to saunter up the driveway in her 101 Dalmatian slippers to sit on Santa's lap. She needed a little encouragement.
      Mrs. Claus waved a candy cane at her, urging her to enter the small gingerbread house where the holiday pair meet and greet. Lisa finally yielded to temptation. She grabbed the tempting treat and made a hasty retreat. But she couldn't move. Mrs. Claus was too fast for her, hugging her up into her lap.

UNLV student earns shot at Miss USA

When Tammie Rankin began modeling 11 years ago, she never dreamed she'd have the chance to become Miss USA.
      Rankin only wanted to emulate her older sister, Suzette Norand, a professional dancer who dabbled in singing and modeling.
      "I admired her so much. She inspired me to sing, dance and become a model," a bubbling Rankin said, recalling how she loved attending her sister's modeling and dance classes.
      Now, Norand is the giddy one. Her younger sister is the new Miss Nevada USA.
