Zone change for new
subdivision denied

The Clark County Commission, in its Aug. 5 meeting, denied a zone change to reclassify 40.3 acres on the north side of Bonanza Road, west of Hollywood Boulevard, to allow for a single-family subdivision.
The applicant had requested the parcel be rezoned from rural residential to allow the development of 118 single-family homes. Several members of the Sunrise Manor Town Board were in attendance to oppose the project, feeling the proposed development would disrupt the area's land use density.
In other business in its Aug. 5 meeting, the Clark County Commission:
Approved a request to vacate and abandon easements of interest to Clark County on the south side of Charleston Boulevard, the east side of Sloan Lane, north of Hickory Nut Avenue, and west of Treeline Drive in a general commercial zone.
Approved a request to vacate and abandon rights of way, being portions of Arden Street and Yuma Avenue, Yuma and Imperial avenues, and between Arden and Lucerne streets in a medium-density residential zone.
Approved until Feb. 5, 1999, an extension to reclassify 55 acres from rural open land to light manufacturing, and five acres to industrial-without dwelling for office-warehouse complexes. The commission also approved a use permit for a steel rebar bending, processing and storage facility in an industrial-without dwelling east of Hollywood Boulevard and north of Cheyenne Avenue.
Denied an appeal for a use permit to construct a nursing home on 3.9 acres in a rural residential zone on the southwest corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Kell Lane.
Held until Sept. 2 a request to appeal variances to permit outside storage where not allowed; to waive landscaping requirements; to waive paving requirements; to waive trash enclosure requirements; and to permit uses on this property prior to the establishment of a principal use on 0.8 acre in a rural estates residential zone on the west side of Ringe Lane, north of Washington Avenue.
Approved a request to vacate and abandon easements of interest to Clark County being a portion of Natrone Drive between Hollywood Boulevard and Tree Line Drive in a light manufacturing zone.
Approved a zone change to reclassify 9.3 acres from rural estates residential light manufacturing for a 162,700-square-foot office-warehouse complex on the west side of Lamb Boulevard and the south side of Colton Avenue.
In its Aug. 4 meeting, the Clark County Planning Commission:
Approved variances to permit truck rental and sales in a general highway frontage zone where a general commercial zone is required; waive the six-foot landscape requirement; waive a portion of the on-site paving requirements; and waive the wall-enclosed trash area requirement in conjunction with an existing building on this site on 0.6 acre on the southeast corner of English Avenue and Boulder Highway.
In its Aug. 6 meeting, the Clark County Planning Commission:
Approved a waiver to permit overhead installation of utility lines where underground placement of utility lines is required in conjunction with a single-family residence on 0.5 acre in a rural estates residential on the northeast corner of Phyllis Street and Turtle Hill Road.
Approved a use permit for an office-warehouse building on 1.2 acres in an industrial-without dwelling zone on the east side of Bledsoe Lane, north of Cartier Avenue.
Approved a use permit for liquor sales for off-premise consumption in conjunction with a 17,100-square-foot drugstore on a portion of 11.6 acres in a local business zone on the east side of Lamb Boulevard, south of Charleston Boulevard.
Held until Aug. 20 a design review for 44 aircraft hangars of various sizes, totaling about 86,200 square feet in conjunction with an existing airport on a portion of 151 acres in a public facility on the east side of Interstate 15, south of Prison Road.
Denied a zone change to reclassify 1.1 acres from multifamily residential to light manufacturing for a contractor's storage yard and office on the west side of Lamb Boulevard and the north side of Tonopah Road.
