New Baptist church gets commission's approval

      The Las Vegas Planning Commission, in its Dec. 18 meeting, recommended to approve a request to rezone 18.57 acres to allow for a proposed Shadow Hills Baptist Church.
      If approved by the Las Vegas City Council on Jan. 26, the property, on the south side of Vegas Drive, west of Buffalo Drive, will be reclassified from recreation and open space to civic. The 124,288-square-foot church will include a preschool designed for about 120 to 140 children and a 40,000-square-foot worship area.
      The planning commission in its Dec. 18 meeting also:
      Held indefinitely a tentative map for for 10 residential lots on 3.474 acres on the north side of Kraft Avenue, east of Torrey Pines Drive.
      Approved a tentative map for 14 residential lots on 5.07 acres on the west side of Leonard Lane, between Lake Mead Boulevard and Vegas Drive.
      Approved a tentative map for 144 condominium units on 14.52 acres on the south side of Alta Drive, west of Rampart Boulevard.
      Approved a tentative map for 165 residential lots on 55.39 acres south of Centennial Parkway, between Jones Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive.
      Approved a final map for 47 lots in a planned community zone on 10.68 acres on the north side of Laurelglen Drive, west of Hill Canyon Lane.
      Approved a final map for 14 residential lots on 5.07 acres on the west side of Leonard Lane, between Lake Mead Boulevard and Las Vegas Drive.
      Approved a final map for three lots on 0.32 acre on the north side of Ackerman Avenue, west of El Capitan Way.
      Approved a final map for 31 residential lots on 6.07 acres on the south side of Brent Lane, between Fort Apache Road and El Capitan Way.
      Approved a reversionary map for one lot on 10.68 acres in a planned community zone west of Anasazi Drive, between Summerlin Parkway and Laurelglen Drive.
      Approved an extension for an approved tentative map for five residential lots on 179.7 acres on the southwest corner of Hualapai Way and Alta Drive.
      Recommended to approve an extension for a zone change on 0.18 acre from single-family residential to professional office and parking, to allow for a proposed one-story, 1,742-square-foot insurance office at 3613 Vegas Drive. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Withdrew, per the applicant, a review of condition on 59.60 acres on the northeast corner of Jones Boulevard and Tropical Parkway, which required the half street improvements to be constructed concurrent with the first phase of development.
      Recommended to approve a site development plan review for a brew pub and restaurant on 1.48 acres on the west side of Tenaya Way, south of Cheyenne Avenue. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to approve a special use permit for a 31,000-square-foot, 48-bed, one-story convalescent care facility on the southeast corner of Jones Boulevard and Rosada Way. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to deny a request to rezone 41.36 acres from undeveloped to residential planned development on the northwest corner of Horse and Durango drives, to allow for 142 proposed single-family homes. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to deny a request to amend a portion of the Northwest Amendment to the General Plan on 10.41 acres from low-density residential and medium-low density residential to service commercial west of Decatur Boulevard, south of Whispering Sands Drive. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to deny a request to rezone 35.47 acres west of Decatur Boulevard and south of Whispering Sands Drive from residence estates and residence estates which is under resolution of intent to residential planned development with three units per acre, five units per acre and seven units per acre, to residential planned development with two units per acre and neighborhood service, to allow for 61 proposed single-family dwellings and a 9.9 acre commercial center. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to approve a site development plan review on 266.63 acres for a proposed 1,143-lot single-family subdivision and a 10-acre commercial center on the north side of Severence Lane, between Decatur and Jones boulevards. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to deny an amendment to the Master Plan of Streets and Highways to realign Farm Road between Decatur Boulevard and Leon Avenue, and Bradley Road between Severance Lane and Whispering Sands Drive. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to approve a request to amend a portion of the Southwest Sector of the General Plan at the northeast corner of Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard from medium-density residential and service commercial to general commercial. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to approve a request to rezone 31 acres at the northeast corner of Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard from medium-density residential and service commercial which is under resolution of intent to residential planned development, to general commercial, to allow for a proposed 40,000-square-foot, 576-room, three-story, nongaming resort hotel with amphitheater. The item will be heard by the Las Vegas City Council for final decision on Jan. 26.
      Recommended to approve a request to amend a portion of the Southwest Sector of the General Plan on the south side of Vegas Drive, west of Buffalo Drive from parks, recreation and open space to public facilities.

      In its Dec. 15 meeting, the Las Vegas City Council:
      Approved a reinstatement and extension for a zone change on 109.70 acres on the southwest corner of Grand Teton and Durango drives, for an approved 633-lot single-family subdivision.
      Approved an extension for an approved special use permit which allowed a mini-storage on the southwest corner of Farm and Cimarron roads.
      Approved an extension for an approved special use permit which allowed a proposed tavern in conjunction with a proposed restaurant on the southwest corner of Farm and Cimarron roads.
      Approved an extension for an approved special use permit which allowed the off-premise sale of beer and wine and gasoline sales in conjunction with a proposed convenience store on the southwest corner of Farm and Cimarron roads.
      Approved a petition to vacate a public sewer easement north of Caliche Way, east of Buffalo Drive.
      Approved a special use permit for a tavern in conjunction with a proposed 6,240-square-foot restaurant at 3900 Rowland Ave.
      Held until Jan. 26, a request to rezone 4.98 acres on the east side of Jones Boulevard, south of Centennial Parkway from residence estates to civic, to allow a proposed 75-foot-high communication monopole in conjunction with an existing church.
      Approved a request to rezone 3.08 acres on the northeast corner of Cheyenne Avenue and Durango Drive from service commercial which is under resolution of intent to limited commercial, to civic, to allow for a proposed 55-foot-high communication monopole in conjunction with an existing Nevada Power substation.
