Temple Beth Sholom is hosting a Yiddish Film and Music Fest at 7 p.m. tonight.
The first international Yiddish hit, "The Yidl With His Fiddle," (1936- Polish) starring Molly Picon and Max Bozyk will be shown with English subtitles. It was filmed on location in Warsaw and Kazimierz, and is an old-time melodrama featuring shtetl life as it existed 100 years ago. The film is a tale of an itinerant Klezmori and a girl, who disguises herself as a boy to join the Klezmer Band.
Preceding the movie, Fran Leslie, noted songstress of Jewish melodies, will entertain with song. Leslie has appeared on the Jewish stage and screen, and with famous bands. She has been acclaimed as "the new Sophie Tucker."
