Dinosaur exhibit
opens in plaza
The largest dinosaur exhibit ever allowed to leave China and be displayed in the United States recently opened.
Nine gigantic dinosaur fossil skeletons and 100 fossil specimens are on display to the public from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. at Chinatown Plaza, 4215 Spring Mountain Road.
The Chinese government chose Las Vegas as the only city in the United States to display the exhibit before it returns to China in December.
Technicians and engineers from China, and the director of Chong-qing Natural Museum of China, Professor Shiwu Zhou, arrived in Las Vegas to erect the dinosaur exhibit, entitled Jurassic Chinasaurs Expo.
"It was not just the numerous amount of fossils that took so much time to erect, but the care and patience needed to work with such a priceless collection," said Zhou.
Titus to speak
about area growth
Senator Dina Titus will share her perspective on the phenomenal growth of Southern Nevada and how this expansion will effect business owners at the National Association of Women Business Owners meeting in January.
As a legislator, Titus has served on the national resources, government affairs and legislative functions committees. She has chaired the Judiciary Committee and is currently its ranking minority member.
She is also a member of the Legislative Commission and has been Minority Leader of the Senate since 1992, the first woman ever to hold such a position in either house in Nevada. In addition, she chaired an Interim Study Committee on Gaming in 1992 and on Energy in 1994. In January 1996 she was one of three American lawmakers chosen nationally to visit legislative colleagues in Siberia who are grappling with problems of democracy and federalism.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday at Southwest Gas, 5241 W. Spring Mountain Road, Building C. Registration and networking begin at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner program begins at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for members and their guests and $18 for nonmembers. For reservations, call the NAWBO hot line at 598-3135 by 10 a.m. Monday. No-shows will be billed.
NAWBO was established to serve the needs of all women who own and operate businesses, provide networking opportunities and promote economic development.
