Cardiac device aids teen-ager

      Most 13-year-olds have enough to deal with simply adjusting to the trials and tribulations of puberty. But for Kathy Loehning, making the transition into young adulthood is nothing compared to her experiences over the past few months.
      The Burkholder Middle School seventh grader recently received an Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD) to remedy a heart abnormality that nearly killed her while in class. At 13, Loehning is the youngest person in Nevada to ever have the procedure.

Foothill's future is high tech

      Bob Johns is building a high school for the future.
      Teachers at Foothill High will be able to flick on a switch and show a TV program, film or Internet research to their students from a monitor in their rooms. That information would be fed by the multimedia center housed in the library.
