      Weary of 2 1/2-hour work commutes, Lori Kennedy fled Southern California's congested streets and smoggy skies in 1992 for Las Vegas, drawn by the city's resemblance to another desert oasis, Phoenix.
      Two years after living in the upscale Lakes community, she moved farther northwest, enamored by its rustic feel and proximity to the mountains, and joined the Sheep Mountain Homeowners Association, a group of 100 to 200 ranch-estate and horse-property owners eager to escape big-city bustle.

Suncoast coming to Northwest

      Construction is under way at Coast Resorts Inc.'s fourth and perhaps most well-rounded project to date, a $175 million Mediterranean-themed hotel-casino in the Northwest.
      The Suncoast Casino will include a 10-story tower with 216 rooms and suites, 78,000-square-foot casino, five restaurants, 600-seat showroom, 64-lane bowling center and 16-screen Century Theater movie complex, said Barbary Coast general manager David Ross. Full Text
