New center offers aid to needy kids

      As a second-grade teacher at an at-risk school, Linda Chase knows how difficult it can be for a child to get ahead when there are problems at home.
      "I see children who come to school hungry every day. I see kids who don't have good clothing or don't get the proper medical care when they're sick," said Chase, who teaches at Cunningham Elementary. "It's very tough. ... A lot of these residents typically don't know where to go (for help), so children will go without."
