Pageant rookie ready to shine

      When Sharon Lane takes the stage representing Nevada in the Mrs. United States International competition in August, it'll be her first time in a beauty pageant.
      Lane didn't have to compete for the Mrs. Nevada International title because the state doesn't have a pageant. Instead, the 29-year-old Realtor sent off photos and a written application. She learned of her selection through the mail on Dec. 31.

Youngsters take steps to plan city

      Third-graders at Wynn Elementary School have been busy contributing to Clark County's development, and adding a few masterplans of their own -- Rogerville City, `Stone Cold' Steve Austin City and Erwin City.
      The fictitious locales are part of a nationwide education program called "Box City," designed to teach children about the styles and structure of architecture and the concepts of community planning by allowing them to create their own miniature cities.
