Texas students to visit Redrock Baptist

Students from Texas A&M University will visit the Redrock Baptist Church May 18 through 21 from 3:15 to 5 p.m. for four days of song, recreation, games and Bible stories with elementary school children.
      The students from the university are sponsoring the "After School Bible Club" and sacrificed 10 days of their summer vacation to attend. They raised funds to come from the First Baptist Church of Bryan, Texas to several churches in the Las Vegas area. The students are led by Pastor John Herring.

      n Sarah Turrentine, 13, will represent Nevada at the annual Bible Drill Competition this summer at the Glorieta Baptist Conference in Glorieta, New Mexico. Bible drill students will be required to memorize more than 25 Scriptures and must be able to locate those Scriptures in eight seconds, quoting the reference and verse by memory. Turrentine is a home-schooled student who actively participates in activities at the Redrock Baptist Church.
      n The Christian Singles of Southern Nevada are hosting a city-wide dance, featuring music from the `70s, `80s and `90s, Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Our Lady of Las Vegas Church located at 3050 Alta Drive, between Valley View Boulevard and Rancho Drive. Bring a can of food and your first drink is free! Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Chuck at 313-4743.
      n The Adat El Sisterhood will hold a "Celebration on Women" luncheon and fashion show on Sunday at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino at 12 p.m. The afternoon will be filled with musical entertainment, a fashion show and guest speaker Shelley Kutliroff Admission is $35 per person.       n The Armenian Apostolic Church is hosting their annual picnic at Angel Park between Rainbow Boulevard and Tenaya Way at 11 a.m. Food, music, dancing, fresh air and the Tavloo Tournament will be featured. Chairs are always a much-needed commodity, so bring them and any family members to the park.
      n The Christ Church Episcopal will sponsor "An Evening of Fine Dining and Entertainment" Friday on the church's patio, 2000 Maryland Parkway. A social will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. dinner (black tie optional). The Las Vegas Fraternity of Executive Chefs will prepare a wide selection while The Master Singers and the Green Valley High School Madrigal Singers provide the entertainment. A donation of $40 per person is requested. Those interested can call 360-3050 or 451-2595. Proceeds will go to the Christ Church Endowment Fund.
