Keith Taylor had his ballclub ready to play on Oct. 3 at Sunset Park.
Time 2 Mash started slow, losing the first game, but roared back and defeated a tough Skuds ballclub in the finals, 15-12.
Skuds' young guns had just survived an extra-inning, come-from-behind victory over the Legends, a mixture of senior 50-and-over players from Utah and Las Vegas.
Time 2 Mash scored early and often in the finals and Skuds never recovered. Experience and defense were keys to the title.
MVP honors went to left fielder Benny Montara and all-tourneys went to Bobby Taylor, Drew Borgna, Tom Tyler and Trevor Condie. Time 2 Mash defeated teams from Hawaii, Wisconsin and Massachusetts in the tournament.
In major division play, Tele/Data Contractors upset Larsens Enterprise in the finals.
The championship game was tied at 10 after five innings, but Tele/Data pounded out 14 runs in its last two at-bats and sealed the victory.
MVP went to Juan Landy Urquiaga, and all-tournament honors went to Joel Hero, Rodney De La Cruz, Darryl Blohm and Joe Firova. Dennis Pritchard's club finished 5-0 in the tournament.
Meanwhile, one of the best sponsors in town, Chaz Ward finally won his first championship Sept. 18 in Mesquite.
Ward's Strike Force club, which has played in tournaments in Palm Springs, Calif., San Jose, Calif., and Phoenix and also played locally in the Budweiser, West-Pac and Hall of Fame tournaments, was coming off two lopsided defeats in National Softball Association Regionals. However, Strike Force caught fire in the ASA tourney in Mesquite and upset Timet and Bad Dogs. In its last at-bat in the finals, Strike Force was down two runs and had the bases loaded against Sabotage.
Left fielder Jeff Sachrman launched a deep grand slam and earned MVP honors. All-tourneys went to Jim Costello, Greg Rhoades, Bryan Bounds, Dave Burke and Ward. Sabotage MVP went to Kenny Rickett, and all-tourneys went to Jason Cox, Brian Kendal, Ron Jennings and John Tilton.
