      Many artists would find it stifling to make their living refurbishing another's work, but Ed Slavin has spent a lifetime learning to see something new each time he repairs a statue.
      Slavin's first mending endeavour occurred at the age of 10 after he broke the hands of his mother's Madonna statue while wrestling with his brothers.

School tries to help pupils shape up

      Growing concern for children's expanding waistlines led Woodbury Middle School officials and the PTA to recruit the Nevada National Guard's help in getting pupils into shape.
      An engineering unit from the guard recently installed $12,800 worth of fitness equipment in the school's yard, located at 3875 E. Harmon Ave., as a way to show their community support and concern for children's health.
