Building projects slated for Diocese of Las Vegas

The Diocese of Las Vegas has contracted with a local construction company to develop seven expansion projects totaling more than 93,860 square feet. The projects will expand existing parishes and all work is expected to be completed this year.
Korte-Bellow and Associates will undertake expansions at Christ the King, Prince of Peace, Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary, Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer, Saint Francis De Sales and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Las Vegas Catholic churches and Saint Christopher Catholic Church in North Las Vegas.
One of the more complex jobs is the $3.3 million expansion to Christ the King Catholic Community Church, located on South Torrey Pines Drive. When the work is done, the church will have new classrooms, a renovated parish hall and a brand new community center, more than 30,000 square feet in all, according to press release from Korte-Bellow.
The largest project in this series of improvements is the new 20,275-square-foot parish hall and 18,615-square-foot kindergarten through eight-grade school at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, located on Pueblo Vista Drive in Summerlin. The school will be the first new Catholic school built in Las Vegas in 30 years.
n Commissioners David and Doreen Edwards, western territorial leaders of the Salvation Army, will be special speakers during the 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday services at the Las Vegas Corps, 2900 Palomino Lane. The Edwards will also lead a United Praise service at 7 p.m. Saturday at the same location.

n Hadassah Aviva of Summerlin will meet Monday at The Manor on the corner of Del Webb and Rampart boulevards, to discuss Tu-B'shvat. Hadassah Holiday profile, the name, the seder, the date and planting of the trees will be discussed.
Sign-ups for a video poker tournament at the Fiesta on March 14, with a fee of $18 will also be discussed.

n Congregation Ner Tamid is offering a free, three-session, conversational Hebrew Class from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 and March 14. The class will be taught at 2761 Emerson Ave. by Lauren and David Eisenberg. Those interested can call 733-6292.
Also at Ner Tamid, Rabbi Richard Address will speak on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. about what to do with unneeded fertilized embryos and withholding or termination of treatment. A program for teens and their parents will be offered on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
n Ner Tamid is sponsoring a luncheon Monday at the Golden Nugget featuring UNLV football coach John Robinson as the guest speaker. The luncheon is scheduled from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and admission is $20.
