Awarding diversity

      In an effort to recognize and thank the businesses that added to the community's economic diversity last year, the city of Henderson's Economic Development Division and the Henderson Development Association recently presented their first Economic Development Awards.
      The awards program was co-sponsored by the city and the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. A presentation ceremony featuring Mayor Jim Gibson, City Councilman Steve Kirk and close to 200 business leaders was held Thursday inside the American Legion Hall at 425 E. Van Wagenen St.

Gibson praises city's past, future in speech

      At the close of what was perhaps the most remarkable decade in the city's history, Mayor Jim Gibson said Henderson's residents have many good reasons to look forward to a bright and prosperous future.
      During his Jan. 20 State of the City address, Gibson praised a number of factors that contributed to the city's rise from a World War II-era industrial village to the fastest-growing city in the United States.
