Cool mission

      Bert Casem spends his professional life extinguishing fires for the Henderson Fire Department. At the grand opening of Mission Hills park, Casem fought off the summer heat by running through spouting water fountains in the park's play area with his daughters Courtney, 7, and Shaunna, 9.
      "I'm going to be dragging them here all summer," Casem said. "There's good vibes here."

Teens get service lessons

      While many teens would shy away from working outdoors during a hot summer afternoon in Las Vegas, one group of dedicated volunteers recently traveled from across the United States to do just that.
      In late June, 45 teen-ages and 10 advisors spent a week volunteering with various community organizations throughout the valley. Some built homes while others prepared meals for the homeless, but each of the young volunteers was united in their effort to reach out to others.
