Brothel battle

      A taxi cab speeding down Homestead Road only meant one thing: Another customer headed for one of Pahrump's two brothels.
      When the cab arrived at the front gate of The Chicken Ranch at the end of the road -- a house that looks like something out of a Hansel and Gretel fairy tale -- the driver and passenger quickly jumped out and rang the bell at the front gate.

Hopefuls compete for spot

      Craig Jorgenson and Marla Zlotek have added their names to a list of candidates vying for the new fifth district court judge position created to help Judge John Davis with a growing caseload in Nye, Esmeralda and Mineral counties.
      They join Kirk Vitto, Robert Lane and Bob Glennon. The top two candidates after the Sept. 7 primary will advance to the general election Nov. 7.
