Community picnic set to celebrate Jewish holiday

Chabad will be hosting a community picnic Tuesday at Sunset Park to celebrate the Jewish holiday Lag B'Omer.
Lag B'Omer is the 33rd day of the Omer and is celebrated for many reasons, including recognizing the death of the author of the Zohar, principal work of Jewish mysticism or Kabbalah.
The picnic will be held in section F of Sunset Park from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Food will be available for purchase and children's entertainment is free.

n More than 400 people were in attendance in the Egyptian Ballroom at the Luxor Hotel for a Passover Seder officiated by Rabbi Mel Hecht of Temple Beth Am.
David Averbach was the Cantorial Soloist for the event, accompanied by Piermarini.
During the event, plans for Temple Beth Am's building project were discussed. Phase one is currently under way and includes a senior care center, a catering hall, an enlarged school and a wedding garden.
n Congregation Ner Tamid is offering a singles Havdallah and dinner at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at 2761 Emerson Ave. The cost is $18 for members of the Jewish Community Center Singles Group or Congregation Ner Tamid and $21 for non-members. Those interested can call 794-0090 to register. The evenings discussion is entitled "Sacred and Profane -- Separate Shabbat from the Ordinary Week."
n Richard Moore, founding president of the planned Henderson State College, will be named Temple Beth Am's Man of the Year during a gala event Saturday in the grand ballroom at Caesars Palace. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will emcee the event.
Tickets, which cost $150, are still available. Those interested can call 240-0183 for reservations.
n Wellspring Church and Christian Center is sponsoring "Seven Days of Glory" Tuesday through May 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature guest pastors and music ministers from the Las Vegas Valley. Refreshments will be hosted by the Daughters of Zion Women's Ministry.
