      When Monique Olivas took up the violin in sixth grade, she didn't know it was one of the most difficult musical instruments to master.
      But the determined 11-year-old didn't let that stop her from trying.

Student anxiously awaits Marine life

      After Eric Zander graduates from Chaparral High School in May, he'll have the opportunity to fulfill his longtime dream of starting a military career, thanks to the Marine Corps.
      Zander, 18, was awarded an $80,000 scholarship from the Marine Corps ROTC program to attend the Virginia Military Institute, where he will study civil engineering. Upon graduation in 2004, Zander will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
