Christmas is the season for giving, and the Junior League of Las Vegas hopes people won't mind giving a little money and a lot of energy for the fourth annual Jingle Bell Jog.

They even have Santa leading a pre-run warm-up to get participants in the mood.

The fund-raising run is scheduled for Dec. 2 at the Suncoast at Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard. A 1-mile fun walk starts at 7:30 a.m. with the 5-kilometer run beginning at 8 a.m.

The event previously took place at the Trails Park in Summerlin, but the move to the Suncoast as a starting point is not expected to affect the run's turnout.

"Usually we've raised around $12,000 or $13,000 at (the Jingle Bell Jog), and we're looking to get back on that track this year," said Junior League committee chairwoman Michelle Benda.

Registration for the event will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Just For Feet, 4500 W. Sahara Ave. The cost is $18 per person, or $15 for youths 12 and younger and seniors 65 and older.

Entry on the day of the race is $25. For the 1-mile fun walk, entry is $15 for all ages.

Participants will receive more than improved cardiovascular health and the opportunity to contribute to a good cause. All registered runners will receive a race T-shirt, gift bag, post-race refreshments and one ticket for a raffle. This year's raffle prizes include round-trip airfare to Chicago on National Airlines.

Additional raffle tickets may be purchased on race day.

"I think the raffle prizes are a lot better this year," Benda said.

The Jingle Bell Jog is one of the larger annual contributing events for the Junior League. The organization is composed of local women promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community.

In the last 50 years, the Junior League of Las Vegas has started up significant community programs such as the Ronald McDonald House, HELP of Southern Nevada, the Shade Tree Shelter for women and children and the Lied Children's Discovery Museum.

The largest fund-raising effort for the group is the Repeat Boutique thrift shop, 100 S. Maryland Parkway.

Those interested in the Jingle Bell Jog can contact the Junior League at 822-6536.
