Baseball players sign

letters of intent

Six players from the Community College of Southern Nevada's baseball team signed letters of intent on Nov. 8 with three major universities.

Texas Tech University offered full scholarships to second baseman John DiBetta, a Durango High graduate; pitcher Nate Fouts, a Bishop Gorman alum; outfielder Jon Slack, formerly of Green Valley High; and first baseman Joe Wagner from Idaho.

Pitcher Amad Stephens from California plans to play for Oral Roberts University. Another Bishop Gorman graduate and second baseman, Ben Quinto, signed with the University of San Diego.

Charity to benefit

from celebrity event

The sixth annual Fletcher Jones Lexus Celebrity Golf Classic will take place Dec. 13 at the Las Vegas National Golf Club. Former Major League Baseball player Mike Maddux will host the event, which will benefit the Southern Nevada Inner City Youth Golf Association.

Past participants of the event include Andre Agassi, Greg Maddux, Danny Gans, Marty Barrett, Bob May and more. Limited spots to play with a celebrity and other sponsorship opportunities are still available.

The Southern Nevada Inner City Youth Golf Association is a scholarship and educational teaching athletic program geared toward inner city kids.

It provides them with opportunities to learn life skills through the game of golf and stresses honesty, integrity, good sportsmanship, individual leadership and dedication.
