     GOLF EVENT

     Chamber of Commerce

     to host tournament

      The Henderson Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its annual golf outing for Aug. 28 at The Revere Golf Club.

      Organizers expect the Chamber's 131 members and their guests will participate in the event, which includes an awards ceremony and luncheon.

      Prizes also will be awarded for the shot closest to the pin, longest drive and hole-in-one.

     GARAGE SALE

     Shoppers invited

     to Silver Springs sale

      A large-scale garage sale has been scheduled for Saturday in the parking lot of the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway.

      A number of second-hand items will be available for sale, including toys, baseball cards, tools, dishes and other household items.

      Shoppers are advised to arrive as early as 7 a.m. for the best selection.

     THEATRE OPENING

     Season kicks off at

     Theatre in the Valley

      Theatre in the Valley will launch its 2000-2001 season with performances of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "A Grand Night for Singing."

      Shows are scheduled Friday through Sept. 30 at the Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.

      Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for children and seniors.

     TRIP OFFERED

     Parks department

     plans Hollywood trip

      The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is planning an Oct. 7 trip to Universal Studios near Hollywood, Calif. Participants will visit the 400-acre facility's rides, shows and behind-the-scenes tour.

      Registration is due by Sept. 22. The $65 fee includes bus transportation and park admission.

     store to anchor mall

      Utah-based retailer R. C. Willey Home Furnishings has announced it will anchor a new 100-acre shopping center to be built near Interstate-215 and Stephanie Street.

      The 126,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in the Traverse Point shopping center next summer.
