Salon owner keeping friendly touch with new locationBy BROCK RADKEVIEW STAFF WRITER
After 14 years in Las Vegas and five years of gathering and serving clientele at his Beauty Biz shop, Steve Smith is moving to something bigger and better. And he's not going too far to do it. Beauty Biz, Smith's salon at 5980 Spring Mountain Road, is scheduled to close down in early April when Smith opens Salon Indigo in the Target-anchored shopping center at Cheyenne Avenue and Tenaya Way. The move seems to benefit the Beauty Biz clientele as much as it will the owner and operator. "My clients will follow wherever we go, and this new location is very convenient being right off the freeway," Smith said. "I wanted a nice shop, a place that was high-end but still personable. And I didn't want to sink a lot of money into that (Spring Mountain Road) location." The relocation and refurbishing will give Smith and his salon staff about 300 extra square feet to work with, and Salon Indigo will also offer a massage therapist, complementing its full service hair salon capabilities with body wraps and salt scrubs. Smith said although he was ready to upgrade his shop's facilities and design, keeping things comfortable for the customers is always the top priority. "I have one hairdresser at Beauty Biz that has been with us for five years, and she just makes everybody feel warm and comfortable when they come in," he said. "That's the kind of environment we're going to create at (Salon Indigo). You will still get that kind of service, no matter what it looks like when you walk in. "The design is more of a combination of styles," he said. "People will know when they walk in how nice of a place it is." Smith also plans on maintaining some of the friendly touches that made Beauty Biz a success, such as a classic-style barber for men and children. Beauty Biz will still be in operation until the opening of Salon Indigo, slated for the second week of April. Both shops can be reached by calling 221-7606. |
