Fans of the XFL received a great meal catered by some of their favorite players before their season ended on April 3. The Las Vegas Outlaws, cheerleaders and staff participated in Tip an Outlaw, hosted by the Harley Davidson Cafe to benefit Candlelighters, a charity operation that provides services for families all over the country. Tickets for this event were priced at $30 a plate, with all profits and proceeds benefiting Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada. Each athlete shed his pads, (each cheerleader her faux-leather), donned a food server's uniform, and served the public a meal as concerned citizens assisting a worthy cause. "We had a great time. I got to bartend for some of our great fans," said Lonnie Palelei, offensive guard for the Outlaws. "I'd like to do as much as I can. If people let us know about events, we would be happy to participate." "The Candlelighters provides emotional, financial and educational support for families who have a child diagnosed with cancer." said Eleyna Simon, executive director of Candlelighters. The organization itself has been in operation for 24 years, and the Outlaws representatives said they considered it an honor to raise money for such a noble cause. "Candlelighters is a great organization" said Angel Rubio, Outlaws defensive tackle and waiter for the evening The Outlaws raised about $1,500 from this event, which will be spent directly on necessities such as transportation for Southern Nevada families who have to travel outside of the state in order to receive treatment.
