EDUCATION CCEA announces board members The Clark County Education Association, which represents 11,000 teaching professionals in Southern Nevada, recently announced new executive board members to a two-year term, said John Jasonek, executive director for the CCEA. Mary Ellen Holloway, a teacher in the Clark County School District (CCSD) since 1981, most recently at Bridger Middle School, will preside as CCEA president. Ruben R. Murillo Jr., a CCSD teacher since 1986, most recently at Mt. View Elementary School, is the new CCEA vice president. These members will have offices at the CCEA building. Other board members include Karen Oliver from Swainston Middle School, Lynn Herman from Palo Verde High School and Michael Soden from Cunningham Elementary School. The CCEA advocates attracting, supporting and retaining quality teachers, smaller classrooms, increased starting and experienced teacher salaries, technical support and foundation grants.
Back to school fair slated for Aug. 25 The North Las Vegas Back to School Fair is scheduled for Cahlan Elementary School, 2801 Fort Sumter Drive, in North Las Vegas on Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will mark the final day for the Nevada Youth Alliance's (NYA) back pack drive. Classroom on Wheels, Computer on Wheels, Clinic on Wheels, Mammovan and the Miles for Smiles van will be in attendance to provide services such as free dental evaluations, immunizations, haircuts, face painting and entertainment.
