Elvis tribute

at Magic Star

Big Elvis and at least three other of the King's tributors will put on a special show Aug. 16 -- the 24th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death.

One of the highlights will be the first public performances of two songs that Elvis had reportedly planned to record.

The show starts at 6 p.m. and will run until at least 11 at the Magic Star, a casino on Boulder Highway in Henderson.

Steve McLaughlin, general manager at Magic Star, said Pete Valle -- a singer who does the act called Big Elvis -- will be the headliner for the show. At least three other performers who do tributes to Elvis have confirmed they'll appear at the Magic Star that night, and McLaughlin said several others have been invited.

He said there will be no cover charge, no minimum drinks and that several door prizes will be given away -- including a trip for two to Graceland, Elvis' mansion in Memphis, Tenn. To be eligible, people must be 21 or over and be present at the 9 p.m. drawing.

Normally, Valle sings to recorded music in his shows at the Magic Star, where he became a regular entertainer in January. For this show, he'll be backed up by local band, State of the Art. Big Elvis will sing two songs written by a former bass player in Elvis Presley's back-up band. According to the story McLaughlin heard, "Elvis was going to record the songs but never got the chance to."
