RUNNING

Distance festival

scheduled for Sept. 15

The fourth annual Road Runner's Club of America Women's Distance Festival is scheduled for 7 a.m., Sept. 15, at Bunker Family Park in Las Vegas, located at the corner of Alexander Road and Tenaya Way. Females of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to participate.

The event will include a 2-K fun run/walk, a 5-K run, and a Lollypop (quarter-mile) Run. All participants will receive a T-shirt, ribbon or medal, refreshments and be eligible for prizes and trophies. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Shade Tree shelter and the Las Vegas Track Clubs Youth Running Fund.

Entry fees range from free, for the Lollypop Run, to $16, for non-LVTC members, for the 5K run. Applications are available at The Running Store (4350 E. Sunset Rd.) and the Jock Shop (5785 W. Flag league

registration open

The 2001 Adult Flag Football League is offering registration for its fall season through Sept. 7. The season is slated to start Sept. 16 at Ed Fountain Park.

The entry fee of $300 per team covers a $30 official's fee per team, per game. Teams can register at the Municipal Sports Office, located at 821 1/2 N. Las Vegas Blvd., behind the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Those interested can also call 229-2256.

RECREATION

Registration starts

for many programs

The Clark County Parks and Recreation department offers activities and programs for all seasons and all ages, including classes in the areas of arts and crafts, adventure recreation, dance, child development, gymnastics, exercise and fitness, martial arts, hobbies, languages, sports and music.

The first six-week session runs from Sept. 10 through Oct. 20. Information is available at any parks and recreation site and those interested can also call 455-8200.

BOWLING

Jewish league

begins soon

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada is offering fall bowling leagues Thursday mornings at the Sunset Lanes in Henderson and Thursday evenings at the the Suncoast in Summerlin.

A 28-week league at the Suncoast starts Thursday and costs $10.50 per week for JCC members and $13 per week for nonmembers. A 30-week league at the Sunset Lanes starts Sept. 13 and costs $8 per week for JCC members and $10 per week for nonmembers.

BASKETBALL

Registration

begins Sept. 8

The Summerlin Youth Basketball League, a division of National Junior Basketball, has scheduled registration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 8 and 15, in the cafeteria at Cimarron-Memorial High School.

The boys' division features teams from grades three-12, while the girls' division features teams from grades three-eight. Proof of residency is required for all ages except high school and a birth certificate is required for those players entering the third grade. The registration fee is $150 per player. Youth leagues

now forming

The Sports Club/Las Vegas and Champs Youth Sports are forming youth basketball leagues for ages 8-14, or those students heading into grades three to nine.

Other events which may be offered include a 3-on-3 tournament and various clinics and camps. The registration fee of $100 ($80 for club members) includes a jersey and SNOA officials.

Hoops academy

has three sessions

Coach John Moran's Las Vegas Hoops Fall and Winter Academy has three sessions scheduled for September, October and November at the Las Vegas Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, located at 101 South Pavilion Center Drive.

The first fall session is slated from Sept. 12 to Oct. 12, with clinics to take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The sessions, open to boys and girls in grades three through 10, will cover the fundamentals of the game, including offensive and defensive concepts and instruction on how to play each position.

The registration fee of $120 includes a T-shirt and 45 hours of instruction. Winter sessions are slated from Oct. 17 to Nov. 16 and from Nov. 21 to Dec. 21. Those interested can call Moran at 258-8144 or 245-4008.

GOLF

Sahara tournament

set for Thursday

The first annual Sahara Landscape and Associates promotional golf tournament is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Anthem at Revere Country Club, located at 2600 Evergreen Oaks Drive in Henderson.

Players must be Anthem residents not currently under contract with a landscape company. Green fees, cart, lunch and prizes are included. The field is limited to the first 60 players.

Boys & Girls Club

tourney set for today

The annual golf tournament for the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson is slated for 7 a.m., today, at the Wildhorse Golf Club, located at 2100 W. Warm Springs Rd.

The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $60 per player and includes raffle tickets, a Continental breakfast and barbecue. There will also be contests for longest drive, straightest drive and closest to the pin. Registration ends today. Women's tournament

set for Sept. 11-13

The 2001 Nevada State Women's Amateur Championship and State Senior Championship is slated for Sept. 11 through 13 at the Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno. The format will be 54-hole stroke play and the field is limited to the first 100 entries received.

Entrants must by a member of the Northern Nevada Women's Golf Association or the Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association. Handicap index may not exceed 35.2 at date of entry. Those interested can call 458-4653 or visit www.nevadawomensgolf.org.

Boy Scout tourney

to begin Oct. 3

The 11th annual Boy Scout Invitational Golf Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 3 at Stallion Mountain Golf Club. The event will benefit the more than 26,000 Boy Scouts in Southern Nevada.

The entry fee of $375 per person will include various contests and prizes, including an all-inclusive trip for four to the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Tournament, as well as lunch, golf, complimentary on-course beverage service and an awards party. Deadline for entry is Sept. 21.

Par-Tee Girls tourney

slated for Oct. 3

The Par-Tee Girls' Partners Best Ball Invitational golf tournament is slated for Oct. 3 at the Desert Willow Golf Course in Sun City MacDonald Ranch in Henderson.

The $60 entry fee includes breakfast, lunch and prizes. Although the format features two-woman teams, single entries are welcome. Players must be current members in the GHIN system and partners must have handicaps within a range of 10 strokes or less.

scheduled for Nov. 3

The second annual Thom Bollettino Softball Classic is slated for Nov. 3 at the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex. The entry fee of $150 per team includes awards, a raffle, barbecue and more. All proceeds will benefit Bollettino -- a local softball player who was paralyzed in a car accident last year -- and the Sam Schmidt Foundation.
