SOFTBALL

Registration set

for Bobby Sox leagues

Registration for the Green Valley and Spring Valley Bobby Sox girls fast-pitch softball leagues will take place Thursday (Feb. 8), Saturday and Feb. 15.

Registration for the Spring Valley league, open to girls ages 4-16 west of Las Vegas Boulevard, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Round Table Pizza on Tropicana and Jones. Registration for the Green Valley league, open to girls ages 4-16 east of Las Vegas Boulevard, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Round Table Pizza on Warm Springs and Eastern.

Registration fees, which include insurance, uniform shirt, shorts and cap or visor, are $50 for girls ages 16 and younger and $40 for girls ages 11 and younger. The leagues are also looking for coaches, managers, umpires and sponsors. CCSN to play host

to tournament

The Community College of Southern Nevada baseball team will play host to the CCSN Coyote Classic tournament Thursday, Feb. 8-10 at CCSN Lied Field in Henderson. The nationally ranked Coyotes will play Dixie College (Utah) at 1 p.m. Thursday, the College of Eastern Utah at 9 a.m. Friday, Snow College (Utah) at 1 p.m. Friday and Dixie College at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Free Trappers to hold

annual rendezvous

The Spring Mountain Free Trappers will hold its annual Mountain Man Rendezvous Feb. 16-19 at Cactus Springs. This event is dedicated to the heritage of the brave fur trappers of the mid-19th century who opened the West, many of whom crossed through and explored the state of Nevada.

Cactus Springs is located three miles north of Indian Springs on Highway 95 (approximately 41 miles north of Las Vegas), with the encampment located behind Cactus Spring Station.

The public is encouraged to attend the event, which is offered free of charge. The event, which is free to the public, features 15 of the top men's college golf teams in the country, including the top-ranked University of Georgia and UNLV, the 1998 NCAA Champion. Other nationally-ranked teams slated to participate include No. 2 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 University of South Carolina, No. 5 University of Texas, No. 7 University of New Mexico and more. All 15 teams are ranked in the top 50.

The elite tournament will also feature eight of the top ten individual college golfers, including No. 1 Bryce Molder from Georgia Tech and No. 2 Ryan Hybl from Georgia. Those interested can call 242-3000.
