Pottery goes to Carson CityBy MARK WAITE
By MARK WAITE VIEW STAFF WRITER Pahrump residents interested in legislation being debated by the upcoming Nevada Legislature won't be the only ones making the trip to Carson City for the session, which begins Feb. 5. Seven pieces of art work made by Pahrump Valley Pottery will be shipped up there as well. The pottery will be on display in the Nevada Capitol for two weeks beginning March 23, said artist Donna Lamm, who made the pieces, along with Floyd Young and Flora Rompas. The Nevada Arts Council saw the pottery at the Clark County Government Center last summer and invited the pottery club to display them in the Capitol hallway, a very unusual arrangement Lamm said, usually artists have to apply to exhibit their artwork. "They're all original wheel -thrown and sculpted," Lamm said. Two of the pottery pieces are light fixtures, one features a sculpture of a fairy reading to two children -- Lamm said it's a takeoff on her family -- another is a sculpted lighthouse. There is also a mesquite tree sculpture complete with owls. "I'll be nice to have Pahrump Valley up at the legislature in any shape or form," Lamm said. |
