LITTLE LEAGUE

Red Rock registration

runs through Friday

Red Rock Little League is offering registration for its fall season, from 5:30-9:30 p.m., through Friday during an all-star tournament at Garside Middle School, 300 S. Torrey Pines Drive.

Registration for the league, which is open to all players in Southern Nevada, ages 9-16, costs $90 for players ages 9-13 and $100 for players ages 14-16. Those interested can also call 391-9196 or visit www.myteam.com/go/ redrocklittleleague.

MARATHON

Rancho teacher

completes marathon

Donna Raagas, a special education teacher at Rancho High School, recently completed the Kona (Hawaii) Marathon in 5:42:59. Raagas was one of 16 runners from Southern Nevada who ran to benefit the American Stroke Association.

Other area runners on the Train to End Stroke squad included Candice Annjanelle, Francesca Baca, Suzi Brehmer, Elisa Carothers, Winde and Larry Goldstein, Karen Hill, Jennifer Lundberg, Patricia Mitchell, Sarah Moses, Tom Nelson, Carlos Ramirez, Deborah Sczudlo, Janet Swenson-Lutes, Vera Vann.

SOFTBALL

Las Vegas to host

Senior Worlds

The prestigious Senior Softball World Championship is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas in September. More than 300 women's and men's squads from around the world are expected to compete. Three teams from Japan have already committed to play in the event.

The VegasWomen's 45-and-older Softball Club is currently the only squad of its kind in the area and needs more players. Experienced players are encouraged to try out for the team. Those interested can call 631-9410.

ABC tourney

set for Aug. 9

The Associated Builders and Contractors of Southern Nevada will host the 11th annual Contractors' Open Golf Tournament Aug. 9 at the Legacy Golf Club. The event, which will benefit the Southern Nevada chapter's Political Action Committee, will tee off at 7 a.m.

Individual and team prizes will be awarded at the tournament, which costs $150 per person, or $560 for a company foursome. The entry fee includes cart, range balls, tee gift package, beverage tickets, an awards luncheon and door prizes. Those interested can call 227-0536.

GOLF

Summer Sizzler

tourney Aug. 8

The second "Southwest Airlines Summer Sizzler Golf Tournament" is slated for Aug. 8 at Stallion Mountain Golf Course.

Proceeds from the tournament, which will be played in memory of former Southwest employee Cindy Serniak, will benefit five local organizations: the Nevada Association for the Handicapped, Chromosome 9P-Syndrome, John F. Miller School, Las Vegas Natural History Museum and Walter Bracken Elementary School.

Close to 300 golfers are expected to participate in the four-man scramble event. A plethora of prizes will be awarded, including a car for a hole in one. The registration fee is $130 per golfer and advance registration is required. The tournament is also looking for tee sponsors.

Junior Golden

Gloves July 19-21

The North Las Vegas Center Ring Boxing Club is scheduled to host the National Junior Golden Gloves competitions July 19-21 at the Texas Station Casino. The public is encouraged to attend the event as local youths compete with other young boxers from across the country.
