READING Literacy program at the library The Pahrump Community Library Literacy Program will be holding an Adult Literacy Tutor Training Workshop. The workshop facilitator will be Val Brady. The workshop will be held at the Library, in the meeting room June 27, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those interested need to call Joan at 727-5930, Ext. 19, to register or for more information. All materials will be provided and the training is sponsored by the Nevada Literacy Coalition.
VETERANS Service Officers seminar June 28 VA Service Officers Seminar for Benefit Rights will be held June 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Topics to be addressed will be burial claims, vets benefits and the VA system. The seminar is open to all Pahrump Vets. Bring form DD214.
PERFORMING Class to present 'Wizard of Oz' The Intro To Theatre class from Artistic Dance and Gymnastic Centre will present their interpretation of the play "The Wizard of Oz" at Pahrump Valley High School Auditorium. Performances are June 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. The costumes and set backdrops were designed by the students. Tickets are $3 and may be purchased in advance at the centre or at the door. LE TIP Evening social set for July 11 Pahrump Chapter, Le Tip International will hold an evening social July 11 at 6 p.m., at the Executive Golf Course. GROUPS Radio operators to hold field day Pahrump amateur radio operators will hold a 24-hour field day as part of the American Radio Relay League's Field Day June 23-24 at the south end of the Terrible's Town Casino parking lot. Ham radio operators will set up at dawn Saturday, with on-air operations beginning about noon, lasting until noon Sunday. The amateur radio operators will contact other Hams around the country to demonstrate their ability to set up emergency operations using generators and battery power. Handouts will be available describing amateur radio and how to become an amateur radio operator.
THEATER Group to hold `Cinderella' auditions The Missoula Children's Theater will hold auditions for the production of "Cinderella" from 3:30 to 6 p.m., July 2 at Pahrump Valley High School. The play is sponsored by the Pahrump Visual and Performing Arts Council. There are roles for children of all ages, kindergarten through 12th grade. Approximately 50 to 60 local children will be cast to appear in the shows to be held at Pahrump Valley High School at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., July 7. PAGEANTS Contestants sought for Ms. Senior Nevada Women 60 years of age and older are welcome to participate in the Ms. Senior Nevada Pageant, to be held Sept. 16 at the River Palms Resort in Laughlin. Contestants are graded 25 percent by their talent, 25 percent from an evening gown competition, 25 percent for their philosophy of life and 25 percent on an interview with judges. VETERANS VFW to hold pig roast The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10054 will hold a pig roast beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post, 4651 Homestead Road. A $6 donation is requested for adults, $3 for those 6 through 12 years old. A horseshoe tournament will begin at 2 p.m. with a $3 entry fee. Anyone who wants more information may call the VFW at 727-6072.Free car seat safety check/instruction will be offered at 6 p.m., June 20 at Family to Family Connection, 160 S. CLASSES Family to Family offers free parenting courses Free parent/infant classes to be offered by the Family to Family Connection for the rest of June include sibling class from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., June 19, appointments are necessary for developmental screenings June 26 and sleep solutions will be the subject from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., June 27. A baby play group is held at 11 a.m. every Thursdays. Anyone who wants more information may call 751-5898. |
