Euphoria Day Spa begins training for consistency

Finding a comfortable place for relaxation is half the battle

In the fast-paced Las Vegas market, with jobs changing and people moving in and out at an accelerated rate, it is often difficult to find a business that offers consistency.

In the world of day spas, people will often try many before they discover a therapist or place where they feel comfortable.

Often by the time they do, the person moves to a different business or location. Euphoria Day Spa is attempting to circumvent this problem by supplying their own people trained at their own facility.

On June 17, the Euphoria Institute of Beauty Arts and Sciences opened its doors to students hoping to learn the various services offered at the day spa.

Located in the Village Square shopping center on Sahara Avenue at Fort Apache Drive, the school houses several different programs that will certify people in the areas of cosmetology.

"We will offer four different programs," said Joe Lamarca, chairman of Euphoria's Board of Trustees. "People can get certified in cosmetology, manicuring, esthetics and hair design."

Each emphasis consists of several hours of hands-on experience, which is designed to ensure that students learn the most important and often over-looked aspect of salon practices: doing what the client wants.

"When people go to a salon, they often know what they want to have done," Lamarca said. "They don't always get it."

That's a gamble Euphoria hopes to minimize.

The classroom environment is also quite different from a typical beauty school. By utilizing modern equipment and providing separate learning areas, students can enhance the learning process. The facility also houses a library of instructional publications and audio/visual aids.

Lamarca also said that Euphoria's beauty school will be more selective in their enrollment process than other schools.

"We require that everyone have a high school diploma or GED," he said. "They also have to interview and pass an entrance exam."

Larry Doyle, president of Euphoria Salons and Day Spas believes that Euphoria's new school will now set the standard for quality training programs in order to fill a gap that has been created by the city's rapid growth.

"We are filling a need here in Southern Nevada," said Doyle. "As the city has grown, educational institutions for cosmetology have not kept pace. This is an under-served market. It was natural for Euphoria Salons and Day Spas to fill the void as we are the single largest employer of hair stylists, estheticians and manicurists in Nevada."
