WOMEN IN AVIATION: Women pilot their own history

Amelia Earhart is perhaps the most famous woman in U.S. aviation history. However, just like any historical person she represents only a small part of the role of women in aviation. Southern Nevada has a rich history of women in aviation dating back before World War II. In fact, Earhart came to Southern Nevada in 1923, by car, to help work a claim on a gypsum milling operation in Moapa which eventually failed. In 1928 she returned to the area via airplane.
