Farmers market

open weekends

A Farmers market is now open every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Southside Nursery on Homestead Road. The market is restricted to produce, local crafts, breads and homemade wood products. This is not a swap meet or flea market but a community-wide event for homegrown products.

Salvation Army

fashion show set

The Salvation Army presents its third annual Fashion Show Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 23 at Rosemary Clark Middle School. The Silver Tappers, "Elvis," special music, door prizes, food, entertainment and fun will be featured. The $10 donation and all other proceeds will benefit children's summer camp programs. Rough Riders show

set for March 30

The second show of the 2002 season will be March 30 at 9 a.m. at the McCullough arena. Sign-ups will run from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., a $5 late fee will be assessed after that time. It is not too late to join the club. Buckles and awards are given to each rider who participates in at least eight shows. A copy of the 2002 rules and bylaws will be provided to each family. The cook shack will be open, and official AAPVRR T-shirts will be available at all Rough Rider events. For more information call B.J. Henderson at 751-0548.

Schooling shows

P.O.S.S. presents its 2002 show schedule: March 23, April 27, June 1, Sept. 14, Oct. 12 and Nov. 9. Awards will be presented at each show, except for the Buckle Series, in All Around High Point, Youth 12 and under, Youth 13-17, Senior, English/Western and Mini Horse high point. New for 2002 will be a two-show buckle series: June 1 and Nov. 9, daily high point winners earn buckle points. Buckles awarded at Nov. 9 show. A new program will be added called "The POSS-PAR." United Way plans

fund-raising dinner

The United Way of Pioneer Territory is sponsoring a St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage fund-raising dinner on Sunday at the Preferred Equities Duck Pond from 2 p.m. to dusk. cost for the dinner is $5. Green beer and Irish Coffee will be available at $2 each, regular coffee will be $3 and soft drinks will be $1. A special feature will be the Politician's Pahrump River Dance, a sight never before seen in the Valley. Tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce or by calling 751-2400.

Nye County GOP

convention tomorrow

The Nye County Republican Central committee will be present the Nye County Republican Convention tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Terribles Lakeside. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m., and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. All registered Republicans are invited to attend. St. Patrick's Day

dinner planned

The Knights of Columbus Council No. 10780 of Our Lady of the Valley Church will sponsor a St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Everyone is invited to attend the fund-raiser. The church is located at Gamebird Road and Pahrump Valley Boulevard. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 through 12. Besides the traditional corned beef and cabbage, there will be a dessert table. Green beer, wine shamrocks (an alcoholic beverage), and soft drinks will be available at an additional charge. The leprechauns have promised to be at the dinner with their "Pot o' Gold" and those in attendance may purchase chances to win a prize. Net proceeds from the event will be placed in the general fund to be used for various projects as well as toward the building fund for the new church. Easter Egg hunt

planned for March 30

A Pahrump Valley children's Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled at 9 a.m. March 30 at Petrack Park. The event is open to children under 13 years old and there will be a handicapped children's area.

Smith's Food and Drug is donating 12,000 real eggs while Pahrump Recreation Improvement Project Inc. is donating 6,000 plastic eggs with candy and prizes inside. The Easter Egg hunt is sponsored by PRIP and Smith's, other groups participating include the Pahrump Valley Senior Center, Pahrump Valley Lions Club, Girl Scout Troop 523, Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Service and the Pahrump town office. Fish fry set every

Friday through Lent

The Daughters of Mary of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church will have a fish fry every Friday during Lent except March 29 in the Parish Hall on Gamebird Road at Pahrump Valley Boulevard from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. SEMINARS

Real estate

seminar scheduled

Bob Massi, lawyer, legal analyst and author, will hold a free informative seminar on residential real estate issues including construction defects, disclosure statements, professional home inspections and homeowners warranties, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the banquet room at the Pahrump Nugget.

A question and answer period will follow. Those in attendance will receive a copy of Massi's book, "A Layman's Guide to the Law." Seating is limited, call 870-0144 for reservations. Massi has been practicing law in Las Vegas since 1980. He is the consumer legal analyst for the Fox News channel and hosts a legal forum talk show on KDWN 720 AM, at noon on Fridays.

Silver Tappers

sell raffle tickets

The Nevada Silver Tappers are selling raffle tickets to help defray some of their travel, lodging and food expenses. Prizes are being donated by local merchants and the grand prize will be a $100 gift certificate for Smith's Food King. The Tappers spend each year traveling across the state doing approximately 25 benefit performances for needy and nonprofit organizations.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. They may be purchased from any Nevada Silver Tapper. The raffle will be held in March and an upcoming yard and bake sale will be held in April. The Tappers will be representing Pahrump in a performance in Scottsdale, Ariz., in May. Other upcoming benefit performances are for the Salvation Army March 23, a church-building fund-raiser in Las Vegas, the Ms. Senior Nevada Pageant in Laughlin and Knights for Molested Children.

Girl Scouts

cookie sale

Pahrump residents will have an opportunity to purchase Girl Scout cookies at booths stationed in front of area grocers until Sunday. The Pahrump cookie sale times are tomorrow, and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Albertson's and Smith's; Sunday. Each variety costs $3 per box, of which 65 cents is kept by the selling troop. Fashion show

Order of the Eastern Star will hold a fashion show April 13 at Pahrump Masonic Lodge, 281 Gemini St. Lunch, door prizes and entertainment will be offered. Requested donation is $8. Donations of new or used clothing size newborn to 2T, diapers, formula, maternity clothes, cribs, high chairs and strollers are needed for local families in the midst of a crisis. The Pahrump Community Food Bank is open on Mondays 9 to 10:30 a.m. for seniors and singles, Thursdays 9 to 10:30 a.m. for families. All citizens of Pahrump are invited to participate in the free community food bank, located at the Salvation Army Church on Big Five Road.

Family to Family Connection's basic Infant care, eating healthy, clothing and item swap, teen parenting and development screenings are now offered monthly. In March, it will offer a CPR class for families with infants up to a year old. Call to sign up, as class space is limited.

Discussion group

The Pahrump Community Library is offering a Spring Craft adult workshop March 28 at 1 p.m. The charge for this workshop is $6 and participants must pay in advance. Visit the front circulation desk at the library to sign up, pay and get a ticket. All materials will be furnished. This is an adult craft, but children 14 and older are welcome with an adult. Sign up and pay prior to March 18.

programs to start

New Hope Fellowship Ministries has started three new programs on Wednesdays. Bread of Life Meal Ministries, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Anyone who is hungry or needs someone to talk to will receive a cooked meal. Good News Bears 6 to 7:30, a club for kids ages 3 years to sixth grade. Join Pastor Donnie Brown for Wednesday night services 6 to 7:30 p.m. Child care is available.
