WRESTLING

Pro wrestling show

set for April 21

A professional wrestling show, which is free and open to the public and will be taped for television, is slated for noon April 21 at Buffalo Jim's Pro Wrestling School, 2456 Industrial Road (385-0974, www.buffalojim.com).

Buffalo Jim's wrestling shows can be seen locally at 11 p.m. Fridays on cable channel 48, as well as at 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11:35 a.m. Saturdays on UHF channel 35. The shows are also televised in Pahrump, on Channel 41, at 8 p.m. Saturdays.

Four wrestlers from the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson recently placed at the Albuquerque Greater Southwest Open in New Mexico.

Justin Martinez won the 95-pound title in the ages 10-and-younger division; Anthony Owens took third in the 60-pound division in the 6-and-younger age group; Dylan Engle finished fourth in the 85-pound, 10-and-younger division; and brother Reese Engle placed fifth in the same division.

Chad Orum and Shane Engle also participated in the presitigous regional tournament, which featured more than 800 wrestlers. Those interested in the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson can call 565-6568.

SOFTBALL

Heritage Classic

seeking teams

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will accept registration for the Heritage Classic softball tournament through April 18 at its sports office, located at 298 Arroyo Grande Blvd.

Teams may register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

The registration fee is $200 per team and competition will be held in the men's D and men's E divisions. The tournament is slated for April 20 and 21. Those interested can call 434-4131 or (TDD) 566-2710.

The Henderson Girls Softball Association is still offering registration for its ages 14-and-younger and 16-and-younger teams.

Volunteers needed

for annual event

The Special Olympics Summer Games is looking for volunteers, in general, as well as ones interested in track and field and golf.

Qualifying Games for area athletes are slated to start May 18 at Cimarron-Memorial High School, with the State Games slated from May 31 to June 2 at various venues at UNLV.

training runs

The Las Vegas Running Team offers free training runs, at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, at different locations throughout the valley. A training run of 5 to 20 miles is also offered at 6 a.m. Sundays at Vegas Pointe Plaza, south on Las Vegas Blvd. Those interested can call 450-4788 or visit www.lasvegasrunningteam.com.

HIKING

Jewish center

offering club

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada will offer a hiking club in April. The club will embark on two monthly hikes, on the second Sunday and fourth Wednesday of each month, at different locations in the area.

Those interested are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and dress appropriately. The registration fee is $5 per hike for club members and $7.50 for non-members. Those interested can call the JCC at 794-0090.

GOLF

Putting tourney

set for April 7

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada has scheduled its annual putting tournament at 4 p.m. April 7 at the Angel Park Golf Club. A dinner is slated to follow at the Suncoast.

The event will feature a mixed-team putting competition and prizes will be awarded for several categories. The registration fee is $30 for JCC members and $40 for non-members. Reservations must be made by Monday. Those interested can call the JCC at 794-0090.

BASEBALL

Skills event open

to local youth

A local Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run Skills Competition is slated for 9 a.m. April 20 at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, located at 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive. The event is free and open to all boys and girls, ages 7-14.

The sectional competition is scheduled for May 18 at the Las Vegas 51s game at Cashman Field. Winners will then advance to the team championship event at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, where they'll compete prior to a San Diego Padres game. Those interested can call David Osman, the Southern Nevada State Coordinator, at 393-6163.

Those organizations interested in hosting their own Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run Skills Competition should also call Osman. Local events must be scheduled between April 1 and May 18.

BIKING

Tour de Summerlin

set for April 6

The Howard Hughes Corp. will hold the Tour de Summerlin, a noncompetitive bike ride featuring 10-, 30- and 50-mile courses, on April 6 at The Gardens Park, located at 10401 Garden Park Drive, east of Interstate 215 and south of Desert Inn Road.

The event, which will also feature stunt bike demonstrations, a children's bicycle safety program and food and entertainment, is open to the public. Pre-registration entry fees are $15 for the 10-mile ride, $35 for the 30- and 50-mile rides, and $40 for a group or family of four for any distance.

The registration fees the day of the race will be $20, $40 and $50, respectively. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Outside Las Vegas Foundation.
