BASEBALL

Hawks' youth team holds tryouts

The Las Vegas Hawks' 13-and-younger baseball team has scheduled tryouts for Saturday and Nov. 16. Players must be born after July 31, 1989 to participate. Those interested can call 768-3704.

SOCCER

Desert Breeze needs coaches for league

The Desert Breeze Community Center at 8275 Spring Mountain Road is looking for volunteer coaches for a 6 to 8-year-old co-ed "Little Kicks" Indoor Soccer League. Games will be played Saturday afternoons. Those interested can call 455-8334.

The center is also looking for certified referees for its youth basketball, flag football and indoor soccer leagues. The pay range is between $10 and $15 per hour. Those interested can also call 455-8334.

WRESTLING

Silverado grappling club ready to register

The Silverado Youth Wrestling Club has scheduled registration from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 22 in the Silverado High School cafeteria. Registration is open to ages 5 to 16 and those interested can call Scott at 203-4441.

RECREATION

Durango Hills YMCA offers programs

The Durango Hills Community Center YMCA of Southern Nevada offers a wide range of activities for all ages, including gymnastics, youth cheerleading, Tae Kwon Do, youth volleyball, adult volleyball, and a competitive youth basketball league. The center is located at 3521 N. Durango Drive.

In addition to the competitive and youth developmental basketball leagues offered at the center, a Poly Nation Basketball Club-YMCA Thanksgiving basketball tournament is scheduled for ages 10 to 15. Those interested in dates and registration fees can call 395-1114.

FOOTBALL

Touch football

season to begin

The Nevada Touch Football League has amended its fall schedule to start a seven-week regular season Nov. 16 at Greenspun Middle School in Green Valley. The league is accepting team and individual registrations for all ages and will feature four divisions -- children (ages 8-12); youth (13-17); adult (18-40); and baby boomers (40 and older).

RUNNING

Trail run to aid

Red Rock Canyon

The first-ever Tortoise Trot, a four-mile competitive trail run and two-mile noncompetitive trail run/walk, is scheduled for Saturday at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of Red Rock Canyon. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in each of seven age groups, from 14 and younger to 60 and older. The entry fee is $20 per person under 65; $15 per person 65 and older; and $15 per person for those entering a team -- teams of 10 or more may enter -- in the four-mile event. Entry fees for the two-mile event are $10 per individual and $7.50 per person entering with a family or group.

BASKETBALL

Programs target

individual instruction

The Tarkanian Basketball Academy has scheduled several weekday and weekend individual instruction clinics, and is also taking registration for its boys and girls club travel teams.

Registration for the club teams, which are open to boys and girls ages 9-18, is $75 per month and includes a team jersey, four team practices per month and four individual instructions per month. Those interested can call 400-7653.

GOLF

Black Mountain sets charity tournament

The Black Mountain Golf & Country Club has scheduled its fourth annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson at 8 a.m. Saturday. The entry fees are $125 per player, $65 for Black Mountain members, and include contests, a Continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100. Women's golf

tourney scheduled

The Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association's Golf for Fun Days tournament is scheduled Nov. 17 and 18 at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. The format is 36-hole four-ball stroke play. The team entry fee is $300 ($150 per person) and includes prizes and an awards social hour.

The event is open to women with a verifiable USGA handicap administered by the Southern Nevada Golf Association. There is a 10-stroke maximum difference between partner's handicaps. Those interested can call Dianne at 255-2286 or visit www.nevadawomens golf.org.

Gorman tournament

set for Nov. 18

The Bishop Gorman High School annual golf tournament is scheduled for Nov. 18 at the Rio Secco Golf Club. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start slated for 10 a.m.

The entry fee is $375 per golfer and includes contests, prizes, a silent auction, an awards presentation and a gourmet barbecue. Proceeds from the event will benefit Bishop Gorman. Those interested can call the Development Office during school hours at 732-1945, ext. 328 or 363.

TENNIS

Bally's Holiday Classic set for Nov. 21-24

The Bally's Tennis Holiday Classic is scheduled for Nov. 21-24 and Dec. 5-8. The November portion of the event will feature ladies and men's doubles play, while the December tournament will feature singles and mixed doubles. The tournament director is David Pate, who won the over-35 doubles title at Wimbledon earlier this year.

The entry fee is $40 for doubles and $30 for singles. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sunrise Children's Foundation.
