I-15 improvements
The Nevada Department of Transportation has awarded Parsons and Carter & Burgess Inc. a contract that involves the widening of Interstate 15, from Sahara Avenue to the Spaghetti Bowl, a six-lane flyover connector from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Industrial Road, reconstruction of the Charleston Boulevard interchange and reconstruction of north- and southbound Interstate 15/Alta Drive ramps.
Consistently listed at the top of a variety of industry rankings for engineering and construction management firms, the firm has been in continuous professional practice for more than 60 years.

Insurance director
gets distinction award
Ken Gallacher, the regional director of American National Insurance Company, has been recognized with the Leader of Distinction Award.
The award, which was earned by just two of the company's more than 200 general agents nationwide, is awarded based on the region's ability to achieve outstanding levels in growth and profitability.
Gallacher, who has been with American National since 1975 and oversees more than 80 agents in the Great Basin Region, has received the honor six times in the past eight years.
Euphoria Institute
earns No. 1 ranking
The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology honored the Euphoria Institute of Beauty Arts & Sciences (EIBAS) for its curriculum recently, naming the facility as having the No. 1 program of its kind in the state based on enrollment.
"We are very excited that the program has become such a success in a short amount of time," said Kim Harvey, director of operations for the Institute.
In addition, the Nevada board ranked Euphoria second in the state, overall, based on enrollment for its nail technology, hair design and cosmetology programs. Currently, there are 145 students enrolled at the Institute.
City recognizes
Memphis Barbecue
Las Vegas City Council members and Mayor Oscar Goodman honored Memphis Championship Barbecue recently for its outstanding dedication to the Las Vegas community.
Each year, the restaurant chain provides its services, food and time to local, youth and nonprofit organizations. From helping elementary schools to the Boy Scouts to UNLV, Memphis Championship Barbecue "consistently supports the Las Vegas Community," said Councilman Michael Mack.
"We like to help people. It makes us feel good to know we're helping to make a difference in people's lives," Carlos Silva, director of operations, said.
Memphis Championship Barbecue has three locations around town, at 2250 E. Warm Springs Road; 4379 Las Vegas Blvd.; and inside the Sante Fe Station, 4949 N. Rancho Drive.

The shareholders of Holman's of Nevada Inc. elected Bill Debevc to serve as vice president of technical services.
Debevc has been with Holman's since 1990, and has served in a variety of capacities. His duties will include managing network support, computer training, consulting and programming.
Holman's of Nevada Inc. is a professional services company specializing in local and wide-area networking, implementation and support, as well as CAD systems, support and training. It has served the Southern Nevada area since 1977.

attorney joins firm
Scott M. Mahoney, a Las Vegas gaming industry labor and employment attorney, has joined the Las Vegas office of the national labor and employment law firm Fisher & Phillips LLP.
Prior to joining Fisher & Phillips, Mahoney was in-house counsel with Park Place Entertainment Corp. for more than 14 years, where he held the position of vice president and counsel for the Western region. Park Place operates Caesars Palace, Bally's, Paris, the Flamingo and the Las Vegas Hilton, among other properties.
Founded in 1943, Fisher & Phillips LLP is one of the oldest and largest law firms in the country representing management in areas of labor, employment, civil rights, employee benefits and immigration law. With the addition of Mahoney, the firm now has six lawyers in its Las Vegas office.

Ethernet services
Sprint, in conjunction with Nortel Networks, announces the launch of Sprint Ethernet Services in Las Vegas. The telecommunications applications will offer businesses the increased bandwidth needed to support the convergence of IP, data, video and multicast applications across business locations.
Sprint Ethernet services are available at 10Mbps, 100 Mbps and gigabit Ethernet (1,000Mbps) speeds, allowing customers to mix speeds by location and application. Sprint will ensure the reliability of business networks by providing several Sprint-managed services options and 24-hour a day, seven days a week monitoring.
