Guns and Hoses
game on Saturday
The seventh annual Guns and Hoses charity ice hockey game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Santa Fe Station Ice Arena. All proceeds from the game between the Metropolitan Police Department and the Vegas Valley Fire Department will benefit the Southern Nevada Firefighters Burn Fund, the Hemophilia Foundation of Nevada and the Salvation Army.
Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door and those who donate a can of food receive $1 off. The food will be donated to the Salvation Army. Tickets are available at several locations, including fire stations at 500 Casino Center Drive (655-2301); 575 E. Flamingo Road (455-7312); 401 Parkson Road (565-2301) and the Crystal Palace Skating Center (252-9832); and at the Santa Fe Station Ice Arena box office.
A charity ice hockey game between the Vegas Valley Fire Department and the U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey team is also slated for May 31 at Santa Fe Station.

YMCA offers lessons
in Hula dancing
Hawaiian Hula lessons are now offered at the Durango Hills YMCA's dance room each Saturday. The monthly cost for the lessons are $60 and classes are open to ages 5 to adult. Lessons for Keikis (children), ages 5 to 8, start at 10 a.m.; ages 9-12 at 11:30 a.m.; for 13-15, 1 p.m.; and for Wahines (young women) 16 and older, 2:30 p.m.
Students can learn the Hawaiian Hula, culture and language from Leihuanani Kiaha Noma'aea, a former Miss Hawaii O Kaleponi who has spent most of her life dancing hula. Those interested can call the YMCA, located at 3521 N. Durango Ave., at 254-7058 or 395-1114.
Auditions to open for dance group
Boyack's Dance Attack has scheduled registration for its upcoming auditions, slated for the second week of May. Auditions are open to girls, ages 4-18, for all levels of dance. All girls are placed on a team. Previous teams have performed with entertainers such as Siegfried and Roy and in front of crowds of the Los Angeles Lakers and other pro sports teams. Teams have also performed around the country and world. The next scheduled performance will be with country music singer Martina McBride, on July 4.

Legacy pitcher
throws perfect game
Stephen Manthei of the Legacy Little League recently pitched a perfect game to lift the Reds past the Giants, 14-0, in a Major division (ages 12 and younger) contest at the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex. Manthei faced the minimum of 18 batters and struck out the last 13 in a row.

Tarkanian Academy
offers all-girl clinic
The Tarkanian Basketball Academy has scheduled an all-girl clinic from 1 to 5 p.m. April 27 at Christ the King Church. The cost is $40 per player, or $20 for all club members. Those interested in the TBA can call 610-3853.

holiday tourneys
The Las Vegas Baseball Academy has scheduled three tournaments, starting with a Memorial Day Tournament-Super Series Qualifier on May 24-26. The top four teams in each age group will qualify for a summer nationals invitation. The registration fee is $425 per team and the event is open to ages 14 and younger. Champs Youth Basketball is offering registration for its Spring League. Champs is open to boys and girls of all skill levels, ages 8 to 18 or grades three through 12, on both sides of town. All games are announced, awards are presented at every game, and contests are also featured.

Senior women
seek players
Several senior women's softball teams are looking for players. There are three teams for 45 and older players, as well as a 55 and older team, a 60 and older team and a 65 and older squad. The year-round teams compete in local and national tournaments. There is also a recreational city women's league and a game at Sun City Summerlin on Saturday mornings for all levels of players.

Tourney raises
$13,500 for charities
The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities' inaugural golf tournament raised $13,500 for children of Southern Nevada recently.
The event, which took place at the Revere Golf Club at Sun City Anthem, followed the recent NASCAR Driver Auction, which raised $145,720 for area children.
Speedway Children's Charities (speedwaycharities.org) is a nonprofit foundation based in Charlotte, N.C., that distributes funds to charities and foundations providing medical, emotional and social services to children in need.
Qualifying for Silver
Cup begins June 3
The Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association's Silver Cup Team Qualifier is slated for June 3 at the Siena Golf Course. The top five gross and net scores will advance to the Silver Cup, which is scheduled for Oct. 5-8 at Sierra Nevada Golf Course near Carson City. The entry fee for the qualifier is $88. Senior championship

The Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association's Senior Amateur Championship is scheduled for May 20 and 21 at SilverStone Golf Club. The event is open to women at least 50 years of age, as of May 20, with a verifiable USGA handicap issued by Southern Nevada Golf Association.

host fund-raiser
A CCAG golf fund-raiser tournament is scheduled for May 17 at Highland Falls Golf Course. The entry fee of $75 per person includes door prizes and a raffle and all proceeds go to the recreation center at 2900 N. Torrey Pines Drive. Rotary Classic set for Canyon Gate
The Las Vegas West Rotary Golf Classic is scheduled for May 19 at the Canyon Gate Country Club. Proceeds will benefit at-risk schools in the area adopted by the Rotary Club of Las Vegas West. Big Brothers, Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada has scheduled The Big Golf Classic April 25 at Silverstone Golf Club. Entry fees are $500 per person, or $2,000 for a foursome, and include a continental breakfast, luncheon buffet and awards ceremony.

Gambler Golf Classic
set for June 14-15
The Las Vegas Gambler Golf Classic, which will benefit the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association, is slated for June 14-15 at the Stallion Mountain Country Club. Entry fees for the event, which will feature two rounds of golf, range from $200 per golfer, with no hotel room, to $332 per golfer, with a private room at Sam's Town. taking applications
The First Tee of Southern Nevada's Southern Nevada Junior Golf Tour Program is accepting applications for membership. The fee for the year-round program, open to players ages 6 to 17, is $80.
Two levels of play are offered -- advanced, for the experienced golfer able to play tournament golf (18 holes); and recreational, for the golfer learning to play tournament golf (nine holes). Those interested in the SNJGA Tour can visit snjga.org or call 433-0626.

Cystic Fibrosis center
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has scheduled its eighth annual Corporate Golf Classic May 5 at the Las Vegas Country Club. A barbecue awards luncheon and raffle will follow the tournament, which will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Care and Research Center. ready to scramble
The sixth annual North Las Vegas Chamber Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 13 at the Painted Desert Golf Club. The registration fee is $150 per player, through May 16; $175 per player thereafter, and includes lunch and prizes. Those interested in the scramble can call 642-9595.
Volunteers needed
for LVI tourney
Volunteers are needed for the 21st annual Las Vegas Invitational golf tournament. All volunteers, who must be older than 18, must pay a $25 fee to defray expenses, but in return they'll receive a volunteer badge to enter the event all five days, a season badge for a guest ($50 value), donuts, coffee and lunch, discounts on clothing and memorabilia, special promotions, admittance to a party after the final round and more.

Tom Carlson's Junior Golf Association, located at the Craig Ranch Golf Course, is now accepting junior golfers for its introductory and advanced classes.
