Women's Club of Summerlin members plan to host their annual fund-raising luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the JW Marriott.
This will be the eighth time the local club has hosted the benefit for The Shade Tree Shelter for women and children.
"We've raised $106,000 so far with our lunches over the last several years," club president Doris Pietrobono said.
While the $60-per-person ticket price helps, Pietrobono said most of that money was raised through the event's silent auction.
Organizers raffle off donated dinner gift certificates, jewelry, memorabilia, golf packages, show tickets, store gift certificates, gift baskets and more. The most popular item is usually the package that includes lunch with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman. A close second is the lunch at the fire station package that provides a party of eight with lunch cooked by firefighters inside a firehouse kitchen.
This year, the donated items include a piece of art donated by marine artist Christopher Lassen.
"It's beautiful," Pietrobono said. "That's going on special raffle."
The silent auction will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m., a performance by the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society at 1 p.m., a fashion show by Talbots at 1:20 p.m. and a performance by The Second City improvisational group at 1:50 p.m.
"We always try to get entertainment from the Strip," Pietrobono said. "We've had the Scintas, Clint Holmes and this year we've got Second City. It's a really fun afternoon."
While most Summerlin Women's Club events are just for the girls, the annual luncheon brings in male and female supporters.
"We usually have upwards of 500 people," Pietrobono said.
Recently the club broke off from the Summerlin Community Association to establish its own independent nonprofit status. Because the club isn't an official Summerlin club anymore, Pietrobono said membership is no longer exclusively available to Summerlin residents. Many members hail from surrounding northwest Las Vegas neighborhoods such as Desert Shores.
"The group has a mixture of ages and you don't have to be a Summerlin resident to join. I actually live out in the northwest," publicity committee member Stacy Lee-Harrington said.
