Red Cross hosts mass CPR clinic

More than 150 people certified in one day

The American Red Cross hosted its traditional Super CPR Saturday March 27 at Spring Valley Hospital, 5400 S. Rainbow Blvd. Four sessions were held for adults between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

During the class, the organization's instructors certified more than 150 participants for free. The adult class usually costs $30 to attend.

"From the three years I've been here, it's grown," said Marie Davis, coordinator of corporate training for the American Red Cross. "Last year, there were 80 people who went through. We hope every year it gets bigger. It was a great turnout this year."

The event is sponsored by American Red Cross chapters all over the United States. Class costs are paid by corporate sponsors and private donors. Once a year, the organization hosts the free event for people who don't have time to take the regular class or can't afford it.

"We try to reach the community. We know there are people out there who can't afford our class on a regular basis," Davis said. "It's been going for years."
