TENNIS
NTA Future Star camps ready to run
The Nevada Tennis Association's Future Star Summer Camps start this week. The camps are open to beginners ages 7-12. Space in the camps is still available even if players miss the first day of practice.
Locations include: Bally's Tennis Club, Tuesdays 4:30 to 6 p.m., and Sundays 5 to 6:30 p.m.; Durango High School, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Lorenzi Racquet Club, Thursdays 4:30 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 11 a.m.to 12:30 p.m.; Sunset Park, Tuesdays and Fridays 7 to 8:30 p.m.; Silvestri Junior High School, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and Sierra Vista High School, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6to 7:30 p.m.
SOCCER
Foundation donates to expand programs
The U.S. Soccer Foundation recently announced a $14,000 grant will be given to the Boulder Dam Area Council Boy Scouts of America in Las Vegas.
The "Two For One" project will use the funds to help expand its soccer program to more disadvantaged Hispanic youths in the Las Vegas area.
Vegas Virtue Cup to be held in August
The second Soccer Resort 8-on-8 Vegas Virtue Cup is scheduled for Aug. 27 and 28 in Summerlin. The tournament is open to men's, women's and coed teams.
Each team is guaranteed four games and the registration fee is $299 for women's and coed teams and $350 for men's teams.

Home Courts opens indoor facility use
Home Courts in Henderson is extending use of its new indoor soccer facility to the soccer community for tryouts and/or practice.

NewStart charity tourney set
The 8th annual NewStart Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting the NewStart Home for Women, will be held Aug. 27 at Aliante Golf Club.
Team registration is $100 per person and $400 per team. Registration on the day of the tournament is $150 per person and $600 per team.

LVI seeks volunteers for October
The Las Vegas Invitational is seeking volunteers for its 22nd annual event, set for TPC at Summerlin from Oct. 4-10.
Volunteers must pay a $25 fee to defray expenses. In return, volunteers will receive a volunteer badge for the tournament's five days as well as a season badge for a guest, coffee and donuts and lunch on volunteer days, discounts on clothing and memorabilia, and participation in a special volunteer party on the final Sunday. Active military members are exempt from the volunteer fee.

Las Vegas Hawks looking for players
The Las Vegas Hawks 12-and-under club baseball team is looking for players for its fall season.

UNLV to host youth camps
UNLV is hosting two baseball camps for players ages 10-18 on August 12 and 13. The cost for one camp is $150 and for both, $225.
The Beat The Heat Pitching/Catching Camp will be held at UNLV from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., while the Beat The Heat Hitting Camp will be held from 5-9 p.m.

League to tip off in September
The Nevada Basketball Association's Fall Basketball League starts Sept. 11.
Games will be played on Saturdays at Christ the King Church, Garside Middle School or Home Courts in Henderson. Teams will play a minimum of eight games. The cost is $115 per participant, which includes a jersey, or $550 per team, which does not.

FOOTBALL
Valley High moves to artificial turf
Valley High School is now replacing its natural grass with artificial turf.
Crews from Las Vegas Paving and Field Turf, a Canadian-based manufacturer, are installing the new turf in a project that is the first of its kind in the Clark County School District. The turf, which bears the brand name Field Turf, has an in-fill mix of sand and rubber. The 82,00-square-foot carpet-type surface will have striping for both football and soccer.
Valley High School will first use the surface when the Vikings' freshmen and junior varsity football teams host Durango High School at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, on Sept. 14. Valley's varsity squad will get to break in the new field on Sept. 17 when it hosts Durango at 7 p.m.
Youth league continues registration
Registration for Nevada Youth Football League (NYFL) is now ongoing Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon at the league office, located at 1651 S. Buffalo Road, between Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
Interested parties should bring an original copy of a birth certificate, a utility bill and a parent's drivers license. Registration fees for players ages 6-14 are $160 and $75 for cheerleaders. Players need to be present for a weigh-in.

Extreme all-stars seek new members
The Extreme Cheer All-Stars competitive cheerleading club is seeking new members.
The club features teams for students in grades K-12 and ages 18 and older. The registration fee is $100 for the nonprofit organization and includes a practice outfit. Warm-ups and uniforms are provided for competitions.
