View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. Anthony Franciscus Funtanilla, Army Specialist, son of Fe and Antonio Funtanilla of Las Vegas, recently completed nine weeks of basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. Funtanilla is a 1999 graduate of Bishop Gorman High School and a 2003 graduate of UNLV, where he majored in management information systems at the College of Business. He is continuing his advanced individual training at Fort Gordon, Ga.
Miarco T. McMillian, son of Abby M. and Richard L. Geyer of Las Vegas, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. In addition to the physical conditioning program, McMillian spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments that included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. McMillian is a 1998 graduate of The Meadows School.
Mikhael A. Songco, son of Josefina A. and Manolito C. Songco of Las Vegas, recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy's weeklong summer seminar program in Annapolis, Md. During the program, Songco was introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities. The summer seminar program was designed by the academy's office of admissions. Songco attends Liberty High School.
Johnathan M. Spendlove, Marine Corps Reserve Pvt., a 2000 graduate of Bonanza High School, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Spendlove spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments that included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. Spendlove is the son of Eugene B. and Julianne G. Spendlove of Las Vegas.
Myron A. Wiggins, Navy Seaman, a 2001 graduate of Cheyenne High School, assigned to the dock landing ship USS Comstock, homeported in San Diego, recently deployed to the western Pacific Ocean and the Central Command Area of Responsibility. Wiggins is one of more than 5,000 sailors and Marines embarked with the USS Belleau Wood Expeditionary Strike Group. USS Comstock, along with USS Belleau Wood and USS Denver, deployed several weeks ahead of schedule in response to U.S. Central Command's request for forces to support the global war on terrorism and to conduct future operations as directed.Favorites name
