FOOTBALL
Youth league continues registration
Registration for Nevada Youth Football League (NYFL) is now ongoing Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon at the league office, located at 1651 S. Buffalo Road, between Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
Interested parties should bring an original copy of a birth certificate, a utility bill and a parent's drivers license. Registration fees for players ages 6-14 are $160, and $75 for cheerleaders. Players need to be present for a weigh-in.

KARATE
IKO locals medal at junior games
Three members of the International Karate Organization (IKO) competed at the AAU XXXVIII Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa from July 29-Aug. 7.
The three medalists were: Chase Dorsey ,9, who took the bronze medal in Kumite (sparring); his sister, Erika Dorsey, 12, who won the silver medal in Kumite; and Jordan Burruel-Smith, 10, who won the silver medal in the Kata (forms) division, as well as a silver medal in Kumite.
SWIMMING
Team Rebel seeking new members
Team Rebel Aquatics is a year-round, competitive swimming team seeking new members between the ages 5-18.
The minimum requirement for the tryout is to be able to swim 25 yards across the pool using any stroke.
Tryouts for the team will be held Aug. 30 from 5-7 p.m. and every Monday thereafter except for holidays. Birth certificates are required for registration. Registration begins Sept. 1 and requires a registration fee of $50.

Desert Mermaids look to grow
The Southern Nevada Desert Mermaids are seeking new members for its synchronized swim club.
If you are between 7-17 years old you can sign up for a free two-week trial of synchronized swimming at the Pavilion Center Pool.

BASKETBALL
Last day to register for Slam tourney
Registration for the second annual 3-on-3 Summer Slam Basketball Tournament will end today.
The tournament is open to players 16 years old and up. Teams may register up up to three players and one alternate. Awards will be given to first and second place and all participants will be given a 2004 Summer Slam T-shirt.
Registration should be dropped off at the Sports Office at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway. The tournament will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday.

Fall hoops league tips off Sept. 11
The Nevada Basketball Association's Fall Basketball League starts Sept. 11. Games will be played on Saturdays at Christ the King Church, Garside Middle School or Home Courts in Henderson. Teams will play a minimum of eight games.
The cost is $115 per participant or $550 per team.

CHAMPS basketball is currently taking registrations for its fall basketball league.

CHEERLEADING
Extreme all-stars seek new members
The Extreme Cheer All-Stars competitive cheerleading club is seeking new members.
The club features teams for students in grades K-12 and ages 18 and older. The registration fee is $100 for the nonprofit organization and includes a practice outfit. Warm-ups and uniforms are provided for competitions.

Senior women's league recruits players
Senior Women's Softball continually recruits players for year-round play in the 40, 50, 55 and 60-year-old age groups.
Depending on experience and skill level there is both competitive tournament and recreational play in the league. The various teams practice and play at different times and places.

GOLF
LVI needs volunteers for October event
The Las Vegas Invitational is seeking volunteers for its 22nd annual tournament event, to be held at TPC at Summerlin on Oct. 4-10.
Volunteers must pay a $25 fee to defray expenses. In return, volunteers will receive a volunteer badge for the tournament's five days as well as a season badge for a guest, coffee and donuts and lunch on volunteer days, discounts on clothing and memorabilia and participation in a special volunteer party on the final Sunday. Active military are exempt from the volunteer fee.

Founders Shoot-Out set for Monday
The Las Vegas Founders Shoot-Out 2004 is scheduled for Monday at TPC and will benefit Project Sunshine.
Amateurs playing in the shoot-out will be paired with professionals seeking one of two special exemptions qualifying them to compete in the Las Vegas Invitational golf tournament in October. Fees are $2,500 per foursome or $675 for individual spots.

NewStart benefit tourney scheduled
The 8th annual NewStart Charity Golf Tournament benefiting the NewStart Home for Women will be held Aug. 27 at Aliante Golf Club.
Team pre-registration is $100 per person and $400 per team. Registration on the day of the tournament is $150 per person and $600 per team. Registration fees entitle participants to Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and Bring Back the Ball contests, door prizes, green fees, use of a golf cart and the tournament banquet.

Vegas Virtue Cup set for Summerlin
The second Soccer Resort 8-on-8 Vegas Virtue Cup is scheduled for Aug. 27 and 28 in Summerlin.
The tournament is open to men's, women's and coed teams. Each team is guaranteed four games and the registration fee is $299 for women's and coed teams, and $350 for men's teams.
