Amazing Castle to move on soon

There are only a few days left to see the Amazing Castle exhibit at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum at 833 Las Vegas Boulevard North.

The exhibit, which began in June, teaches children about the Middle Ages, with hands-on workshops and displays about medieval history, warfare, art, music and dance.

Toddlers can build fortresses out of "stone" blocks and older kids can put on a puppet show with characters who live in the exhibit's castle.

There's a tailor shop where kids can help mend costumes for castle residents, a garden where they can help gather food for the castle cook, and a friendly, sleepy dragon who announces royal banquets.

"It teaches how each job in a community ties to the others to make the castle run effectively," said Wendy Adams, museum public relations manager. "It's hands-on, very participatory. Children get to learn what each job was -- blacksmith, cook, gardener."

From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, artist Sue Segal will teach a workshop on drawing techniques using medieval subject matter.

At 1 p.m., members of the Bardic Guild of Albion will be at the museum to recreate a scene from Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice."

The exhibit closes on Sunday.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday through Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
