View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. Edward Kotaro Hill recently completed the course of study for his diploma from Keystone National High School in Bloomsburg, Pa. Hill, who was born in Japan, has been homeschooled in Las Vegas since the 3rd grade. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Keystone, Hill completed several Japanese language courses through Brigham Young University. Hill recently took the SAT and achieved a combined score of 1310. Hill loves to write, has a keen interest in history and hopes to pursue a career in journalism. He has his sights set on Patrick Henry College in Virginia next year. Until then, he'll be busy working at Office Depot, saving and applying for scholarships. Hill is the son of George and Harumi Hill of Las Vegas.
Chad Hoff, a recent graduate of Eldorado High School, earned a position on the Nevada state high school rodeo team. The team traveled to Gillette, Wyo., from July 19-25 to compete at the 56th Annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR), where Hoff competed in the team roping competition. His sister, Chelsea Hoff, a sophomore at Eldorado High School, also earned a position on the Nevada state high school rodeo team to compete in Gillette. She qualified in breakaway calf roping and goat tying. Featuring more than 1,500 contestants from 39 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the National High School Finals is the world's largest rodeo, where contestants competed for over $125,000 in prizes and more than $225,000 in college scholarships. The Hoffs are the children of Mike and Tammy Hoff of Las Vegas.
Ryan J. LaRance, son of Darcey L. LaRance of Las Vegas, recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy's weeklong summer seminar program in Annapolis, Md. During the program, LaRance was introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities. The summer seminar program was designed by the U.S. Naval Academy's office of admissions to give students a taste of the challenges and benefits of a Naval Academy education. LaRance currently attends Western High School.
