TENNIS
Team tennis for youth begins Monday
The spring season of USA Team Tennis for Youth is slated to start the week of Feb. 23, with local teams in the 14-and-under and 18-and-under divisions eligible to advance to sectionals and, possibly, to regional and national tournaments as well.
USA Team Tennis for Youth offers boys and girls the chance to play in leagues that emphasize fun, fitness and friends. Players of similar age and ability are matched together and play other local teams in their division.

BOWLING
Tournament to benefit children
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada welcomes the community to participate in Bowl for Kids Sake on Feb. 28 at Texas Station and March 6 at Sam's Town. Registration starts 45 minutes prior to each event, with sessions scheduled at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., if needed.
Participants, who may bowl as individuals or teams, are encouraged to raise $100 per player and sponsorships also are available.
All proceeds go directly to programs that match children on a waiting list for a Big Brother or Big Sister. There are close to 100 children waiting for a match in Las Vegas. Those interested in registering for the event can call Shantell Strelka at 731-2227, ext. 408, or visit bbbsn.org.
BASEBALL
Spring skills camp set at UNLV
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas has scheduled a one-day spring skills camp March 21. The camp, which will be conducted by UNLV coaches and players, will be split into three sessions -- hitting, pitching/catching and position play.
The camp is open to ages 7-14 and campers will be grouped by age and ability level. Those interested can call 896-4462.
Umpire program for at-risk teens
The Marty Barrett Little League is offering a new umpire program for at-risk teenagers, ages 13-18, and also has scheduled registration and tryouts for coaches and players, boys and girls ages 5-16.
Registration and tryouts for ages 5-12 is slated from 1 to 4 p.m. March 6 at Alexander Villa Park, located at Lamb and Las Vegas boulevards.
Registration for ages 13 and older is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. March 7 at Pettiti Park, located on Donna Street, behind Bridger Middle School. Those interested can call 390-0039.
Hawks traveling team holding tryouts
The Las Vegas Hawks travel baseball club is currently conducting individual and small group tryouts for its 11-and-under and 12-and-under teams (players born between Aug. 1, 1990 and July 31, 1993).
The Hawks are a Little League-friendly organization and have an aggressive tournament schedule planned this season. Those interested should call Alan at 524-3362.
Eldorado High to host youth camp
The Eldorado High School Sundevil Baseball Camp is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the school.

Traveling team seeks players

Volunteers needed for LPGA event
Volunteers are needed for the LPGA Takefuji Classic, which is scheduled for April 12-17 at the Las Vegas Country Club. Those interested can call 898-4653.
Elks tournament to benefit Child Seekers
The Las Vegas Elks #1468 charity golf tournament, to benefit Nevada Child Seekers, is scheduled for May 24 at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. Those interested can call Bob Gates at 222-9895, Walt Sinit at 243-7778 or Darrell Dimbat at 253-9142.
Free seminar offers swing analysis
A free golf and health seminar is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 28 at Silverstone Golf Club, with golf evaluations and swing video analysis offered, along with wine and cheese.

Tournament set for Silverstone Golf Club
A "Birdies & Bogies Fore Brandy" golf tournament is scheduled for Sunday at Silverstone Golf Club. Proceeds will go towards cancer treatment for Brandy Hicks, an office manager for Gilmore Construction.
The entry fee for the scramble is $100 per player and includes lunch and prizes for low net, low gross and men's and women's longest drive and closest to the pin, along with other prizes and raffles. SOFTBALL
Senior men's, women's teams starting soon
The Henderson Sports Group is now forming teams for men's and women's senior softball, which is slated to start March 22.
Those interested in playing in the men's over-40 and over-55 leagues, as well as women's over-40 and coed over-40 leagues, can call 212-5437.
T-ball program accepts sign-ups
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson are now accepting registration for their T-ball season, open to boys ages 5 1/2 to 7 years old and to girls ages 5 1/2 to 8 years old.
The registration fee is $50 per player and includes uniform and membership to the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson. Registration is open to March 10 or until the league is full.

Pop Warner seeks volunteer coaches
The Southern Nevada Pop Warner Football Conference is looking for volunteer coaches, with qualified candidates at least 21 years old, with a love for football and kids and a desire to help the youth of the community. Youth league holds registration
The Nevada Youth Football League has scheduled registration from 10 a.m. to noon each Saturday through Feb. 28, at 1651 S. Buffalo Ave.
Players need to bring their birth certificate, utility bill and a parent's driver's license. The registration fee is $150 for the youth division (ages 7-14) and $260 for the senior division (ages 14-16). Players must be present to weigh in.

Speedway auction to benefit children
The sixth annual Speedway Children's Charities NASCAR Driver Auction is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 4 at Sam's Town Live!, inside Sam's Town.
More than 20 NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series drivers took part in last year's event, which raised $146,000 for the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. Those interested can purchase tickets through tickets.com or at the Sam's Town box office at (800) 634-6371.
TAEKWONDO
Free classes offered for former students
Desert Sun Taekwondo, Nevada's largest Olympic-style Taekwondo training facility, is offering two free weeks of taekwondo instruction to all former martial arts students from any martial arts school.
Master Michael Evans, who teaches every class, said anyone who walks in with their uniform and wants to resume their training will receive two weeks free. Evans also is offering a free week to those interested in starting the study of martial arts.
