Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. Aaron W. Fairfield, Marine Corps Pvt., son of Janet A. and David L. Fairfield of Las Vegas, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Fairfield is a 2003 graduate of Palo Verde High School.
Cesar A. Gimeno, Marine Corps Pvt., son of Bertha A. Gimeno of Las Vegas and Carlos P. Gimeno of Gardena, Calif., recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Gimeno is a 2003 graduate of Silverado High School.
Michael S. Mendez, Marine Corps Pvt., son of Yovette L. and Jerry J. Raymond of Las Vegas, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Mendez is a 2003 graduate of Palo Verde High School, and joined the Marine Corps in October 2003.
Ruben Ramirez Jr., son of Esmeralda H. and Ruben A. Ramirez of North Las Vegas, recently received, along with his fellow crewmembers aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise homeported in Norfolk, Va., the Navy's Retention Excellence Award for fiscal year 2003. Ramirez, a 1999 graduate of Rancho High School, joined the Navy in April 2000.
Francis H. Ramos, Marine Corps Pvt., son of Maria E. and Heriberto H. Ramos of Las Vegas, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Francis is a 2003 graduate of Las Vegas High School, and joined the Marine Corps in September 2003.
Michael T. Smith, Marine Corps Pvt., son of Andrew T. Smith of Las Vegas, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Smith is a 2003 graduate of Las Vegas High School.
Lance W. Stanley, Marine Corps Pvt., son of Beth E. and Charles M. Stanley of Las Vegas, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Stanley is a 2001 graduate of Palo Verde High School and joined the Marine Corps in October 2003.
Aaron J. Starks, Airmen Apprentice, graduated from Desert Pines High School in 2003, with advanced honors. Starks graduated in the top of his class from Navy basic training at Recruit Training, Great Lakes, Ill. He is now stationed at Pensacola, Fla., where he was recently awarded student of the month. He is training to be an aviation electrician's mate. Starks is the son of Cydne A. and Frank Starks Jr. of Las Vegas.
Grant T. Sutton, Marine Corps Pfc., son of Bill R. Sutton of Las Vegas, recently completed the Small Arms Repair Course at the U.S. Army's Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md. During the course, Sutton learned how to operate, inspect, maintain and repair all sorts of automatic weapons. He also studied preparation of weapons for shipment and storage, and related safety precautions. Sutton is a 2003 graduate of Eldorado High School and joined the Marine Corps in June 2003.
Anthony J. Ziemniak, Marine Corps Corporal, is a 2001 graduate of Las Vegas High School. He is the son of Gail and Al Spriggs of Las Vegas. Ziemniak recently returned as a combat veteran of Iraq, where he was in the first wave of troops to enter Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ziemniak is a Marine Artillery Supervisor.
