Favorite Sons & Daughters

View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. Cesar A. De Leon, Marine Corps Pvt., recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. He is a 2003 graduate of Desert Pines High School. He is the son of Maria Segura Diaz and Eliseo Segura of Las Vegas.

Michael T. Denoyer, Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class, son of Sheri A. Thomas and Tom A. Denoyer, both of Las Vegas, recently welcomed Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Terry Scott aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu in the Arabian Gulf. Michael is a 2000 graduate of Las Vegas High School and joined the Navy in August 2000.

Ruzena J. Zatko, Marine Corps Pfc., recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Ruzena is a 2002 graduate of Horizon High School.

Deborah Lynn White, daughter of Linda A. White and the late Lt. Col. Thomas J. White of Henderson, was recently honored for outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, during the fall semester of the 2003-04 academic year. White achieved Dean's List recognition, which is given to those cadets and active duty military students registered for 12 or more semester hours whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester's work. In addition, White earned a Gold Star, which is worn on the collar of the uniform, for achieving a 3.7 grade point average or higher. She is a 2001 graduate of Bishop Gorman Catholic High School.

Michael D. Massingale, Navy Seaman, son of Allison J. and Michael D. Massingale of Las Vegas, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Michael is a 2003 graduate of Valley High School.
