TAEKWONDO

Free classes offered to former students

Desert Sun Taekwondo, Nevada's largest Olympic-style Taekwondo training facility, is offering two free weeks of taekwondo to all former martial arts students from any martial arts school.

Master Michael Evans, who teaches every class, said anyone who walks in with their uniform and wants to resume their training will receive two weeks free. Evans also is offering a free week to those interested in starting the study of martial arts.

SOCCER

League seeks girls ages 4-18

Silver State Girls Soccer League has scheduled registration, for ages 4-18, from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 4, at McDonald's, located at 4934 Boulder Highway, at Flamingo Road; from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Rainbow Library, located at 3150 North Buffalo Drive, at Cheyenne Avenue; and from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Zelzah Shrine Temple, located at 2222 W. Mesquite Ave., south of U.S. Highway 95 and Rancho Drive.

The registration fee is $40 per player, which comes with a team T-shirt. Players also need to bring a wallet-sized photo and new players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate. Those interested can call 593-8508 and push 3.

GOLF

Women's group moves, changes name

The Badlands Women's Golf Association recently moved from Badlands Golf Course to the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort and will now be known as Women's Golf Association at Paiute.

Boys & Girls Club to hold benefit

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas' 30th annual golf classic is scheduled for Feb. 10 at the Royal Links Golf Club.

Breakfast is slated to start at 9 a.m., with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee of $400 per person includes a continental breakfast, tee prizes, green fees, cart and awards party.

Sponsorships also are available, ranging from $250 to $2,500. Those interested can call 367-2582, Ext. 236.

YOGA

Studio offers goddess classes

Studio Open, a yoga studio located at 5115 S. Industrial Road, Suite 107, has scheduled a pair of workshops Sunday.

"Simple Beauty Nutrition for the Goddess on the Go" is slated from 10 a.m. to noon and "Awakening the Goddess" is slated from 2 to 4 p.m.

FOOTBALL

Youth league schedules registration

The Nevada Youth Football League has scheduled registration from 10 a.m. to noon each Saturday through Feb. 28, at 1651 S. Buffalo Drive.

Players need to bring their birth certificate, utility bill and a parent's driver's license. The registration fee is $150 for the youth division (ages 7-14) and $260 for the senior division (ages 14-16). Players must be present to weigh in.

RUNNING

'Rock the Rock' set for Feb. 7

The sixth annual "Rock the Rock Fun Run" is scheduled for 8 a.m. Feb. 7, with proceeds to benefit the Gibson Community Center.

A 2-mile run/walk for fun is scheduled, along with a 5-mile feature race, with both events to be run over part of the scenic loop at the Red Rock Canyon National Recreation Area.

All participants will have the chance to win prizes, including a trip to Disneyland. Entry fees are $20 for pre-registered runners and $30 after Feb. 4. Those interested can call 464-8987 or visit active.com.

LITTLE LEAGUE

Redrock league plans spring season

Redrock Little League has scheduled registration for its 2004 spring baseball season, open to boys and girls, ages 5-16. Sign-ups are slated from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sports Chalet, 8825 W. Charleston Blvd., near the corner of Rampart Boulevard.

Players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate and proof of residence. The registration fee is $80 for T-ball and $95 for all other divisions. Those interested can call 391-9196 or visit leaguelineup.com/redrock littleleague.

Cheyenne league seeking players

Cheyenne Little League has scheduled registration for its spring season, for boys and girls ages 5-14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center.

Parents need to provide a certified birth certificate and two proofs of residence, such as a utility bill and a driver's license. Those interested can call 649-2262.

BASEBALL

Sierra Vista camp signing up players

The Sierra Vista High School baseball camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 7 and 8 at the high school and is open to all players in grades five through eight.

Raptors youth squad needs players

The Las Vegas Raptors' 12-and-under competitive traveling baseball team is looking for players.

SOFTBALL

Fastpitch squad seeking players

The Southern Nevada Fastpitch ASA girls softball Northwest League has scheduled registration for its spring season from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Big 5 Sporting Goods, 2020 Craig Road, near the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The registration fee is $65 for ages 4-8 and $75 for ages 9 and older, and players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate. The league features two divisions, for both the beginning and experienced player, and hosts camps and clinics throughout the year.

Local league plans registration

The Southern Nevada Fastpitch Association/Southwest girls softball league has scheduled registration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Villa Pizza, located at 3385 Durango Road, between Desert Inn Road and Spring Mountain Road.

The registration fee is $65 for ages 4-8 and $75 for ages 9 and older.

Late registration also is available, from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 4 at the West Flamingo Softball Complex, located on West Flamingo Road, between Jones Blvd. and Torrey Pines Avenue. The late registration fee is $85. Players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.

The league is open to players ages 4 to 14 in the spring, and up to 18 in the fall, and there are two divisions for different skill levels. Those interested can call 898-1293 or visit eteamz.com/SNFASouthwest.

Oldest, largest league taking new players

Northwest Girls Softball, which bills itself as the oldest and largest league serving the northwest, is accepting registration for new and experienced players.

The league, open to ages 4-16, features both a recreational and competitive division and offers clinics and tournaments and every player receives a trophy.

Fastpitch Association sets registration

The Southern Nevada Fastpitch Association/Summerlin has scheduled early registration for its spring season, which is open to girls ages 4-14. The league, which features two divisions for different skill levels, will offer sign-ups from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at The Willows Community Center, 2775 Desert Marigold Lane.

Players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate. The registration fee is $85 for ages 4-8 and $100 for ages 9 and older, with $5 off for early registration. The season is slated to start March 20 and clinics and camps also are scheduled. Those interested can call Sheryl Rios at 391-9556 or Carita McCormick at 255-4336.
