Can you name

that mountain?

As a resident of Centennial Hills and a subscriber to the Las Vegas Review-Journal I enjoy receiving the View each and every Wednesday and Friday.

The suggestion I have is for the map of the valley, which appeared in the June 16 edition of the Centennial View. As a whole, the map is excellent, and I hope that you will continue to include it in every edition.

What I would like to know is if you could help those of us who are residents learn what the names of the mountains that surround us are. As I drive North on U.S. 95, heading toward exits Centennial East and West I truly do not know the name of the mountains to my right. When family and friends come to visit they always ask what mountain is that on our right, left and in front of us. It sure would be great to be able to name them correctly.

Yes we can

The Las Vegas Valley is geographically bounded by the Spring Mountains to the west, Frenchman Mountain to the east, the McCullough Range to the south, and the Sheep and Las Vegas ranges to the north.

Garden column ripe

with suggestions

It was nice getting the expanded View. We usually don't get this many articles and Bob Morris' gardening column, too. After reading his column, I went out and remulched my tomato plants. Maybe it will help keep them green until all those tomatoes get ripe.

Being an old Cleveland Indians baseball fan, it was nice to see the article about Rocky Colavito's granddaughter Angelina.

Some comments:

Many people are not watering their lawns or changing to xeriscaping. They are just not watering and letting their lawns go. They aren't even mowing the weeds, which then blow into their neighbors' lawns. It is making a mess of the lawns that are xeriscaped or watered nearby. Some people with xeriscaped lawns don't pull their weeds or kill the weeds and grass when they are very small and they get out of hand. It not only looks awful and ruins the look of their lawn, but makes more work for those of us who try to keep our lawns looking at least part-way nice. We won't even talk about the dandelions.

Maybe Bob Morris could write an article about this and include a couple of pictures.
