RECOGNITION
Post office named for commissioner
The Boulder City post office at 1011 Colorado St. was officially renamed in honor of Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury, a Boulder City resident since 1978, in a ceremony held July 3.
U.S. Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev., initially introduced legislation to rename the federal office for the esteemed commissioner, and President Bush signed the bill in November.
Woodbury, a native of Las Vegas, graduated from Las Vegas High School and attended the University of Utah and Stanford's School of Law before beginning a productive career in public service in the Las Vegas Valley.

Jazz concert set for Justice Court Park
Music Under the Stars has scheduled a performance by Mary Ellen Spann and her five-piece band from 8 to 10 p.m. today at Justice Court Park, 243 Water St.

Pavilion site of Philip Hamilton Group
The Philip Hamilton Group, described as an innovative blend of jazz and acoustic soul, is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway.
Tickets range from $2 on the lawn to $10 in the orchestra section. For ticket information, call 267-4849.
Fletcher, Sun City team up for fun
Fletcher Music Centers and Sun City MacDonald Ranch is set to host an afternoon of fund, food and music for local seniors to enjoy starting at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Desert Willows Community Center of MacDonald Ranch, 2020 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.
Guests will be treated to several amazing performances from both Fletcher staff and students. For complimentary tickets, call 871-4418.
Weekly shows continue Saturday
The Jazz on the Lake series is set to continue with a performance by Tim Ballard from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in the MonteLago Village Events Plaza at Lake Las Vegas.

And at The District at Green Valley Ranch, Island Tyme is scheduled to perform from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday.
Music society to open season at Venetian
The Las Vegas Chamber Music Society plans to perform concerts at the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum, inside the Venetian. The season opens with a concert by internationally acclaimed pianist Awadagin Pratt at 6 p.m. Thursday.
In September, guitarist Ricardo Cobois scheduled to play Latin American favorites. In November, flutist Karen Haid is planned to appear and February will see renowned harpist Kirsten Agresta performing. The series at the museum concludes with french hornist Eric Ruske.

Cox to host Family Movie Night
Cox Communications, in collaboration with STARZ! Kids, is hosting a Family Movie Night at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in Las Vegas.
The movie, Universal's 2003 film "Peter Pan," starts at 8:30 p.m., and snacks, a costume contest and other events are part of the fun. The event is free and open to the public.
Admission is limited to the first 1,5000 attendees.
